Default The difference between satan and the devil - 06-16-2008, 09:46 PM

the concept of the 'the Satan' is radically different from the idea of the devil, as a jew, i do not believe in the devil, i believe that Satan has powers granted by God, but according to some Christians I've talked to, they believe in the devil, that he has the power and authority in and of himself, so my questions is, do all Christians believe this, and if so, wouldn't that make the devil a god?

There is no common ground for discussion. You claim that the Devil and Satan are radically different, yet in Christianity, the Devil is Satan. You should expound on the difference you think that exists between the Devil and Satan.

is not the same as satanism...

Some would want to apply the term devil to any other fallen angel other than their chief. The chief fallen angel, also called Lucifer, has the title Satan.

The powers that Satan exercise came from God by means of creation, but not as a result of special continual blessings. The exercise of such powers are under direct permission of God.

That's the majority Christian belief.

Default satan and devil - 06-17-2008, 07:11 AM

Satan and devil are the same entity but the names can be used interchangingly.

The bible states that Jesus one main objective was to destroy the works of the devil. The connection is found in acts 26.18 which tells that Jesus came to open the eyes of mankind to turn from darkness to light from the power of Satan to God

The other link is in the bible itself;Mathew refered to him as devil while mark called him Satan.

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” Matthew 4:1

“And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.” Mark 1:13

Satan is the name that is used for Lucifer after he was thrown out of heaven. He is also called the devil. Satan is now a sinful, fallen angel. He has lived on this earth for about 6,000 years. But Satan has lived in the spirit world and most of the time he has not been visible to people on earth. Very soon the devil will leave the spirit world and will appear on earth in a visible form. Then he will be called the beast.
