Is god a man or a woman -
06-15-2008, 08:46 PM
Most pple go with the belief that God is a male, but why?
I personally lean to the belief that God is a female, because God is a benevolent God. God created life, the only male species that i know that can actually carry life is a seahorse and that man on Oprah although technically he is a woman. Therefore we are made in a likeness of a female God who made females create life as God chooses to. Any differing opinions?

You've got to be kidding me. A Torah-believing, Torah-abiding Jew cannot possibly believe that God is a woman.
Why would a female God first create a male, and then create the female from the male? Wouldn't it make sense to do the opposite?

God appears to be male even the siddur( the prayer book) and the bible refer to God as only a he, traditional jewish techniques points out that God is really beyond all attributes including those of gender, but it has been argued that despite that seems like a nice theory, we humans need to use symbols and words to express our experience of our divine. So there is nothing wrong with with an individual using feminine words for God to address her as the mother or any feminine terms.

You got to be kidding too. Do you actually believe that God has any gender relations?
God is Spirit and that's an enough statement.

the male is the gender of authority and power...so although God doesn't have a particular sex, we'd rather refer to God as Him rather than Her (or it - which would imply innanimate).
its just for convenience..
besides, (christian explanation) as recorded, Jesus refered to his father in heaven.
and it would seem kinda awkward if a female god got mary preggers...lol
The closer you look, the more you lose the bigger picture

Nope.
But in the Bible, he's always given the male reference. I think to refer to him as female just because he has no gender is absurd.

There are few verses that give God feminine attributes though, especially those of a mother. I agree with you totally.

My friend, some brothers and sisters in here might lash out at you for being blasphemous. But this post brings to mind Shaggy's song. I wonder if God is a woman. Listening to the lyrics, leaves me thinking deeply. I shall not say more lest people go on a fast and a whole month's kesha so I can be delivered.

God is a spiritual being and does not possess any physical characteristics unless he choses to do so.I think if man and woman were created in God's image then it is proper to say that God has a mind, will, intellect, emotions, and moral capacity similar but not same in size of both man and woman.

Of course the Christian god is male. To argue against that is ludicrous. The evithe Bible is overwhelming, and I don't think it's figurative.
