Does God change with civilization? -
05-29-2008, 01:45 AM
from observation, you will realize that all the mainstream churches have not changed their main worship format but there is this hyped idea with the upcoming churches about bringing civilization to the church to make it livly & it leaves me wondering Are we all searving the same God who declared he never changes yesterday , today & tomorrow.
Could it be a means of trying to justufy our holding unto the ways of the world as well as trying to stay under God's wing?

What is civilization?
What if a Church was worshipping God in a civilized manner since her inception? What if the "civilized" are the ones that are worshipping God in barbaric ways?
What if the reverse is true?
Let me respond to your question now!
As an adult, I have this kid for a while now. When she was 4 years, she used to cry in order to get what she wanted from me. When she increased in years and became 12, she used to ask me things illogically, that is, when you would inquire why she wanted whatever thing she wants, she wouldn't have sufficient reasons to justify her request. Now that she's 17, she is able to logically and reasonably explain her requests. She has been changing her approaches due to brain development, but I haven't changed on how to I handle her requests; I still evaluate the validity of such requests before granting any to her.
God is the same. He hasn't changed from being the God that demanded animal sacrifices and stoning to death human offenders, and the One that requires not the same anymore.
Methods change, but methods are not God.

society's evolution is not partial. people as well as their methods change -
doesn't mean the word has changed.

I was asked the same question over three months ago. Look for the thread titled "Swali for Grip" started by ATLian about three months or so ago! Dont be too much one sided in Mashada, you'll miss a lot.

Just to help your slow brain, your red highlighted section of my post has nothing to do with my relationship with any kid ;it's an analogy for answering the question under discussion.

i THINK kamamshanice means like making the church contemporary - something that
many see as secularizing the church. take for example we now have gospel
ROCK music...

Oh! ok.
If you ask a jungu teenager today what Rock and Roll means, they'll tell you its a genre of music. If you asked a jungu teenager in the 70s the same question, they'll tell you it means to have sex. So Christian Rock may be possible today, but what about in the 70s?
Holy Hip Hop? Still highly controversial. A few more years down the line, maybe not.
What about African-american Gospel music? Based off of blues and Jazz? These are okayed today but back when they started, really controversial . (Anyone watched the Jamie Foxx movie when he played Ray Charles?)
So what are the options, old-school hymns? Aren't those based off of the songs that used to be sang in the bars? They're okay today, but back then, they were controversial.
Old Testament worship was liturgical, Early Christian worship was liturgical, worship in heaven is liturgical, are these supposed to change? I don't think so.
