Are Muslims descendants of Ishmael or Essau?

From the biblical perspective ,are muslims the root of ishmael or essau?

Am asking because Ishmael was told that his descendants shall rule by the sword and look around the world how islamic fundamentalists rule their world.

Differentiate Muslims or Islam for that matter with Arabs. Islam is a religion that sprung up after Christianity. Its not a race FYI.

Note: We do have Arab Christians and non-Arab Muslims!
