Default Do we really need Expensive Churches - 04-22-2008, 11:31 AM

I remember passing through a lot of villages in Kenya where houses were run-down and dilapidated, schools were falling apart, dispensaries and mortuary facilities were non-existent and fire departments were unheard of.

But in those same villages I saw grand opulent Churches that stuck out of the landscape like sore thumbs with their stained windows and beautiful gardens. I wondered why locals would spend so much of their resources for a building that was used 1 day a week while neglecting every other aspect of their life.

How much have you ever donated from your own pockets to build a church? Most of the churches you see have been financed by the mother churches where the congregation has grown.

Most of the villagers still take their offerings as harvest to be auctioned in the church.

Which villages are these? In every shags church I have ever gone to, the tiithe is always in cold hard cash. The difference with them and akina All Saints is they give coins while All Saints guys give notes.

It’s not mystery whatsoever. Just as insects follow the light so do humans wonderment.

Our people live in desperation: no paved roads, no schools, no hospitals, no pipe borne water; in fact some are retreating to treetop and cave dwellings.

Egomaniac Politicians and religious-marketeers build mansions to deities and ask our people to expect life only after death.

The big guys pray in gold and diamond plated Shrines and ask God to help them keep their amassed fortunes while much of the world goes to bed hungry.

The examined life is not worth living

this is the curious thing.
if people were able to band together to help themselves the way they line clerics' pockets, the world would be heaven!

and most of those mother churches gladly pillaged africa, asia and south america when they were helping ease the white man's burden.
