Default Eve was not the first woman to be created? - 04-16-2008, 05:01 AM

Genesis 1:27
God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
The first woman to be created was LILITH. Eve was created as in
Genesis 2:20-22 : And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Was the man created in Genesis 1:27 Adam? We find Adam being created in Genesis 2 too.

According to Hebrew legend, the first woman God created as a companion for the first man Adam was a strong-willed lady named Lilith. As both had been created from dust, Lilith considered herself equal to Adam. (They differed anatomically, of course, with the Bible referring to a male as one who "pisseth against the wall" [1 Sam. 25:34; 1 Kings 14:10; 21:21].) Lilith objected to having to lie beneath Adam during sexual intercourse, but Adam would have it no other way. Lilith up and left him, winding up in rabbinic tradition as a baby-killing demoness who seduces sleeping men. Lilith is mentioned in Isa. 34:14, though the KJV renders lilith as "screech owl." This first wife of Adam may safely be called the world's first uppity woman.

With Lilith departed, Adam was back where he started, being without a fit helper. According to a Hebrew tradition cited in Graves and Patai, God let Adam watch while he put a second woman together. The process of anatomical assemblage was so disgusting that Adam found the woman repulsive even though she was beautiful when finished. God sent this first Eve away and tried again: while Adam slept, Yahweh created the Eve found in Genesis 2 from Adam's rib. God presented her to Adam, who said happily, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man" (Gen. 2:23).

Chowkidar, i'm not sure you answered grip's question.

If the man in Genesis 1:27 was Adam, then was Adam created twice since he was also created in Genesis 2?

It is to my understanding that Genesis chapter 2 gives a detailed explanation of how Genesis 1:27 was actually done due to the importance of man's position on earthly creation. What evidence do we have to reason otherwise?

good question. and where is the name Lilith coming from?
i looked up this Isa 34:14 and found it to refer to a "screech owl". now i'm no bible genius, but even though you somehow refuse that screech owl refers to a to a bird (an owl...figures), how the hell does it come to refer to a woman...and not just anywoman, but a woman named Lilith?!?!

Did i stutter? - I think not.

Actually chowkidar(sp?), the 2nd wife remained nameless. Eve was only the third.

For those who refuse to believe this 'legend' look at it this way, the creation story/stories in the bible are in essence legends too and by scholarly argument the biblical accounts should or rather can be viewed as just a bit of the whole Hebrew legend of Lilith and the sexual positions n stuf.

There are a lot of Hebrew written materials that were rejected when LXX or rather the Septugent bible (the bible that formed the basis of Jerome's work and later on King James bible) was compiled. It is believed that the compilation of LXX and even the King James Bible was directly guided by the Holy Spirit thereby restricting me to accept it as the entire word of God.

Some of the materials that were discarded were later on included by Catholic scholars (members of the Jesuits) to give the Catholic complete bible including such books as the Tobit making pleasurable the Catholic dogma. So I still refuse to believe on Legends outside of the biblical canon as contained in King James Bible.
