Default Body, Soul, and Spirit - 03-19-2008, 10:41 AM

What is the individual in the human being? The body, the soul or the spirit? Here is my reasoning (biblicaly based):

The man, or the human, or the unique person in that body structure of yours is not universally accepted. The naturalists postulate that human structure is purely physical composed of organic matter organized in such a framework and high biological activities to cause life. That human is just a complex interactions of electrons, protons, neutrals and other subatomic particles that have aggregated to organic molecules that relate to each with ability to replicate, grow, develop and extinguish.

Another extreme view of life is that other than the physical biological arrangements of the said molecules, a spirit or a soul possesses that body to be the rightful individual that determines the being in that body. This school of thought reasons that at death, the spirit or the soul escapes the body and goes somewhere depending on the righteousness of the dead body.

Examining few verses, I have decided to believe like a naturalist, though deviant when it comes to totality of their reasoning. The deviance is in agreeing that the spirit also plays part in the life of the body other than the individuality thereof.

Let's go back to the creation of man. It is recorded that God took the earth and formed a body out of it. This body was made in completeness and form. Every single molecule and organ was in place. But the man was not alive. He was like an already manufactured computer ready for use but had not been powered.

Then God breathed the breath of life and man became a living soul. Note two important elements of man in this verse; the breath of life, and the living soul.

The breath of life is the spirit of God that gives life. It is the same spirit that Ecclesiastes records to say that when a man dies, his body goes back to earth, and the spirit goes back to God who gave it. This breath is not life, but the breath of life.

And man became a living soul. Actually if you go back shortly into time just before God breathed the breath of life into man, man was not a living soul. That which is not living is dead. So man was not. The body complete, but he had not existed. If we argue that the breath was the man, then it means man was already in existence before he was created, and what God did was to implant him in the structured soil (mud) with molecular arrangements to behave in accordance to the wishes of the man. That would be saying it is the breath of God that is the man. But since I dont accept such an argument, given that it would frontier reasoning that man is therefore part of God, and therefore immortal as God, would be in contradiction to the need to worship the same God.

The human body as I have already given an example, can be compared to the assembled computer. The breath of life hence can be compared to the electric power. Just as the electric power is not the logic sequences that make the computer on and function (alive), so the breath (herein after referred to as the spirit) is not the life or the human person.

The spirit is just God's given power by which the body jumps into functionality. This functional body is then referred to as soul. The Hebrew word translated as soul in the Old Testament is the same word that is translated as life. So when a person dies, God simply takes back His life giving spirit (power or breath), and the living soul is no longer living, just as it was not living shortly before God breathed the breath of life at creation.

God is all encopassing theirs nothing that exists with or without breath that was not a part of God.God cannot be divided,The activity of God does not include one and leave another.Theres only one power and that is God ,In Gods kingkdom there is no such thing as truth over error or God over devil, good over evil, or right over wrong.Gods world is Gods world.God does not think of physical bodies.Rise above the concept of physical bodies to the realization of the spirit.Behind every human externalized form theres always more than the human eye can comprehend.

@truuth.

What you have said is true when you consider life. What about non living objects? The stones and soil and etc? Do they have anything that's God in them? There own self identifying mark?

Is the breath the man that can exist outside the body? If yes, when is its origin? Or man never was created (the spirit man that is)?

The body is the flesh
The soul is the flesh plus emotions
The spirit is the part that lives beyond death of the soul.

What do you mean by, the spirit lives beyond death and how? Does it have a begining? Is the statement that only God is immortal therefore false?

[quote=grip_daddy;631058]What do you mean by, the spirit lives beyond death and how?
Spirit comes from God,it can only be destroyed by God himself, not even the devil can.

Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.Mathew 10.26-33

Does it have a begining? Is the statement that only God is immortal therefore false?

Yes it has a begining some time between conception and implantation,,Immortal simply meanse it cannot die,the spirit is immortal yes but not before God.

Jasakwa then who is grip_daddy? My body or my spirit? If it's my spirit, then why did Peter say that David had not ascended to heaven in Acts Chapter 2?

If you can give an insight to Peter's statement above, please also explain the need for resurrection at Jesus second coming.

Grip here is the complete passage;

Acts 2:34-36

For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
" 'The Lord said to my Lord:
"Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet." '

"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

the writer(st. luke) is contrasting David's death with Jesus' ressurection.David died, was burried and did not rise from the dead, but Jesus did.Thats what he means by "david did not ascend to heaven".

When we die our spirit goes to a place of waiting in heaven till the day when our bodies will be redesigned to be like Jesus. You see when Jesus died his spirit went through the same journey, and he ascended only after the spirit came back to his body,so that his body became immortal.

Jasakwa then who is grip_daddy? My body or my spirit?

Grip i believe you are both 3.Why because your body is specifically taylored for you,to be you, your genetic characteristics have no match to another.

You are your soul because the intense and parameters defining your emotions, decisions and thoughts are grip specific,no match to another.

You are your spirit because thats the breath that God gave to you,to inspire life in your body and soul.

In brief the Body is the mechanical part of our being, the Soul is the reasoning thinking part of man, and the spirit is what God gave us it's what gives us life.

If this is still complex for you grip,i will use an example of a robot,
the power from the battery is the spirit
the component is the body
the data processor is the soul

please also explain the need for resurrection at Jesus second coming

When christ comes our bodies will have to be transformed to be like his..why?..because we are going to be with him in the holy place in heaven.Remember Jesus is in the holy of holies, the fashion of his body is Immortal. He is not just spirit but body, the same way he wil fashion us,to enable us enter the place he has prepared for us.That should happen prior to the great tribulation period.
