Default Mother Teresa's Crisis of Faith. - 08-24-2007, 07:20 PM

The holiest of the holy, also had her doubts about Jesus.

Please read this article from time.com

Mother Teresa's Crisis of Faith - TIME

was she being tested? or is Jesus and God simply NOT THERE?

i know many of you are shocked that she had doubts. I was shocked too. So does this 'shake' your faith?

TOA MAONI YAKO.

I read the story and it does not dimish the works she spent her life on.

It is worth noting that though she attributed her calling to an encounter with JC, she soon doubted and felt lonely.

I would say that the reason she might have felt lonely was because she might not have had someone to share her life and experiences with. I think that the reality on the ground might have caused some of the despair she felt. I wish not contradict her experiences because they belong to her but it might be that her crisis was based on real issue that don't hold water in the religion she publicly confessed.

All in all, I continue to respect her dedication to service and I think she will continue to be an inspiration to many.

Default Christopher Hitchens - 09-19-2007, 08:20 PM

I think the Time account came from Christopher Hitchens book "God is Not Great". It's a thought provoking book.

On another note, is faith supposed to be unshakeable? I find some solace in the fact that even she had doubts; I know I do. It's not natural to me to think that God gave me the ability to reason and expect that I not try to reason and question everything including whether or not he/she/it exists. This is the contradiction I cannot reconcile when it comes to religion i.e. believe the unbelievable without any proof and harbor no doubts about it.

I think anybody, even the most devout Christian, who says that they have 100% complete faith bila any questions is a liar. I can therefore understand why Mother Theresa had her doubts. I'm just surprised that she expressed them publicly.
