Default Belief in life after death key to morality - 08-19-2007, 12:15 AM

Most people who have attempted suicide give up the urge once they effectively believe that there is judgement in life after death.I have done counselling and that where have witnessed this. The mere acceptance that there is life after death convicts the hearts and minds of criminals persistently giving a chance for repentance.

This concept wirked well in most african traditional societies too,the belief that there was life beyond death reduced crimes such as murder and reduced suicide cases.

The challenge is however posed by the atheists. An atheist mind believes there is no supreme being and percieves death as permanent end of life.Without the thought of accountability beyond death the criminal mind becomes very hard to counsell.

Dear Safina,
I like reading your posts for I find your line of thought fascinating. I just wonder how you came up with the username Safina of all other possible usernames.

Reading your exchanges with TM and ATlian's contributions makes philosophy and religion forum worth visiting.

Some of the questions you ask are the ones that all thoughtful people ask but many have been conditioned not to ask such. There are people (even here in mashada) who think that they will be punished for asking, doubting or even being angry at the ignorance and darkness that covers the body of knowledge that was handed down to us in books.

I find it hard to understand why I should trust some 300 or so bishops appointed by an emperor to determine what is good for me to know and what is not. I also find it hard to understand how six thousand years of existence can explain the genetic and racial diversity through a single couple at Eden. My list of question is long but I bother not ask them here.

Back to the topic. The promise of eternity is an interesting one. Judaism claims that they do not know know what happens after death. The Egyptians (origins of Abrahamic religions) believed in life after death for the nobility. They prepared their dead for it and laid them in the pyramids and tombs where they still can be found.

I dare ask; what actually makes us different from the rest of the living things, especially animals? the soul? what exactly is the soul? What is the life cycle of the soul?

Some say that the soul is the breath of God in humans. that breath of God makes us different from animals. Well, if that be the case, what can I say?

So the urgument goes; if the breath of God is contaminated by the evil one, it can no longer be rejoined with God and is therefore cast into eternal seperation-Hell. The search we have, the yern in our lives is for the reunification with the source...

What do you think about all this, Safina?

You know what, sharing one's flame does not diminish one's light, and that's what Safina is all about.

Good robots don't question the programmer.Safina will stand straight up and question anything, even if it might cost my life, sooner or later we all won't be here, its just a matter of time.

I cannot get into that now, thats for another thread Karani.

As humans,we are so weak and we can't stand facing the incovenient truth. As for me,I believe out of my dead body, flowers will grow and to me that is eternity(99.9% of Africans(not modern) believed this)).If you don't know how I know that, feel free and ask me.

I dare ask; what actually makes us different from the rest of the living things, especially animals? the soul? what exactly is the soul? What is the life cycle of the soul?

Good question. To be frank with you,I tend to be agnostic when i come to this question. As human beings,we are fond of making up things.Soul might be nothing but an "idea".From a christian point of view,a human is comprised of 3 parts, soul, spirit and elements, while other animals are comprised of two, soul and elements.Christians believe what separetes us from other animals is the 'spirit' not 'soul'(two different things). But the truth is nobody knows the truth.Or maybe soul is nothing but energy that make our bodies work.

That's a good question but you asked it in a wrong way.Your mind has already been corrupted,I can tell that you are on "God's" side.Do me a favor,Take the word God and any religious attachment from your question and ask it again. That way,you will ask you question outside the box under no influence.Thank you

Safina,
My mind is pure, that is why I said "some say", that meant it was not my point of view.
