Default Essentials vs Non Essentials - 08-10-2007, 04:13 PM

In the Protestant circle of Christian churches, there are a countless number of denominations yet all are considered Bible-believing churches. As to the differences/disputes between them, the argument used is that all the denominations agree on what is said to be 'essential doctrines' for salvation, while the disagreements are on 'non-essential doctrines.'

What are the criteria used to determine whether a doctrine is essential or non-essential? In fact, I've visited quite a number of apologetic websites and even they have varying opinions on what is essential and what is not. Some have even broken it down into Primary essentials, Secondary essentials and non-essentials.

Is this biblically sound? Or is it an attempt to make room for error and ignore some parts of the Bible?

What do y'all think?
