In my opinion, the criteria for the New Testament was;
1. the book had to have been written before 100 a.d.
2. the book had to be popular with the Christians at that time.
3. any book popular among the gnostics and the arians had to be excluded.

Note this is just my opinion.

somebody had to...it probably came down to who has more earthly authority.
you can also see for yourself that it isn't pertinent as "the word of God", like the rest of the bible is..

I see no controversy here..the book wasn't hidden. it was just seperated from the bible.

Which brings me to what I and people like Poko-hunter have said before,in that creation stories are man made and have been changing to suit the peoples and their respective beliefs at those points in history. That is why God who starts out as female, may chnage to male, then may split herself to many small gods, etc...

Not categorised as part of the scriptures,but nobody is prevented from reading it.For a book to qualify as a scripture it had to meet some requirments which included origin and date of discovery.
