Mathew 4:8-11 -
01-09-2007, 08:50 AM
"Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor"
To me,this is physically imposible, especially if you are on one side of a sphere.
after reading this i came up with three posibilities.
1)Neither Satan or Jesus knew the earth was a sphere.
2)Satan Knew, but was testing Jesus's omniscience.Either Jesus knew the earth was a sphere, but was aggraveted at satan's insulting his intelligence.
3)The story is fiction, and gospel writers didn't know the earth was a sphere. They had earth as a center of universe, you remember they said,Joshua son of Nun once moved the sun that had stopped.
Which answer do you think is right.

It just shows that it's men who wrote the Bible and they had no idea that the earth was round. The Bible also quotes GOD talking about the 4 corners of the earth. HELLO?

i agree, it is physically imposible. not that it has anything to do with what you said, but thinking that physical geography could ever apply to either Jesus or the devil like it does to us is just absurd.

these aren't your regular human beings, safina. you're talking about the devil and the son of God.

satan tried to tempt jesus, not measure his intelligence on geography.

the story will probably remain fiction to your kind, safina, no matter what. if the writers thought the world was quadrilateral, why would they in isaiah 40:22 "...it is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth..."

I really dont know what you are smoking or drinking,I would really love to buy a case of it.It seems you have been away from your bible for a while,or you don't go to church no more.

Why would Jesus be dragged on a mountain in the first place.I thought he is the Lord,he already knows whats gonna happen.

You need to open your history books and see how many people were executed by christians for saying the world was round and not flat.

I hope you are joking.

I can post a larger number of links from people who were were practicing theists, and then became atheists (or sought out the truth as you put it).
If you want the atheist view point, speak to an atheist, not a former atheist, just as when you want a representation of the theist stance, you get a theist, not a former theist.

safina, lets take a break from all this religious talk and answer me this question:
you've heard of superman, no doubt, could you briefly describe his what he wears and summarize any 2 of his powers?
its simple question, there's no need for material other than what i've asked for..

Safina;
You have an inquisitive mind, but it seems you are reading the scriptures with preconcieved ideas. If you look at the passage in context you might find there is more inrigue than you are eluding to. You will find that the passage is prefaced by the idea that this man, Jesus had not eaten for 40 days and fourty nights. Try just a couple of days and you will realize how metaphisical you mind will become. How would it be possible to see in an instance 'all the kingdoms of the world?'
You are missisng the lesson and the purpose of this passage, and the rest of the scriptures because you are looking for supposed errors in the scriptures. How about turning your inquisitive mind to the possibility that there is a meesage and a lesson for you to learn from the scriptures.
Blessings to you!
