Default What is the mearning of life? - 12-15-2006, 05:30 PM

Or rather, what is the purpose of life?

I mean, why are we here on earth? Now, I have always observed that there is a hope and that those of you who declare not to believe in God or the Bible or eternity, I mean where is your hope? How do you live your life searching for the purpose of what you are meant to do? why are you here on earth?

Why are we here really, this time, the earth made for human existence? This is just too intricate, too complex, too lofty for human understanding:

Interesting question. I have often thought of posting the same. Actually i'll go ahead and state that, there is no meaning to life without God.

Life in this context does not refer to your own personal life (which to you might have meaning) but life in general as in existence of humans, anilmals etc.

Think about it. If you do not believe in God, then you must believe that life is just a random occurence (there is no plan or planner) hence it must be meaningless. What do ya'll think?

@violina

Thanks for asking that question. That's an old question.
At times i really wonder what makes me get up in the morning and go thru daily routine when I already know what is ahead of me(death).I came to a conclusion that we are only here to Fvck and make babies so as to spread our genes. That way, there will be no human extinction.

Why are you here reggie Woic; Maybe Safina has a point. I am here because my parents decided to get it on that night. If my father had decided to disperse his seeds by jerking off, some other sperm would have fertilized the egg. If my Mum had nyimad my Dad for a month, again his sperm would have totally missed that particular egg. Now, if the world population agreed to stop banging or somehow the real woman was replaced with something virtual; then the human species as we know it would cease to exist. This is true and as you like to say it “GOD or no GOD”.

mine is a hopeful journey safina. a hope that irregardless of its substantiality gives me reason to be a good person. y? because there are benefits at the end that i greatly look forward to...that's my drive.

wajibu, what you explained is "HOW" you got here, not the purpose of your being here. so you're here because your parents had sex...now what?

Kapuka,

I totally disagree. According to you, if you suddenly became an atheist, then everything that matters and means something to you would suddenly become meaningless. That is a bunch of garbage. Your life doesn't have meaning BECAUSE of god, it's you who puts meaning into it. You can be an atheist who decides to have the most fulfilling life there is, and you can be a believer who decides to have a totally devoid and meaningless existence.

God plays the same role in my life as Santa and the Tooth Fairy do - NONE whatsoever! There's nothing I need god for in my life, there's nothing I ask god to do for me in my life. Despite that, my life has tons of meaning. There are things I live for, people I live for, things I plan and hope to accomplish, etc. I won't deny myself the joys of life with the blind belief that I will get them forever in some eternal paradise.

As a muslim, that question is a walk over for me.
The purpose of life here in this world is so clear and has been explained to us by Allah(God) in the holy Quran when Allah says:
"I have not created Man and Jinn but to worship Me(Allah)"
" I don`t want any provision from them neither do I want them to feed Me"
"Allah is the provider of all needs to His creations"
So our purpose of existence here in this world is to solely worship God as per His commandments.
This is just but a preparation for the life to come when every single humanbeing will have to account for his/her deeds in this worlds before God.
So we muslims believe that we are on transit in this world to the next world which is eternal.
We believe that whoever did good in this world will be admitted to the garden of heaven(paradise) and whoever did evil will be admitted into the blazing fire of hell.
I ask Allah almighty to guide us all humanbeings to the straight path. A path that will lead us to our Creator,Sustainer,Cherisher and provider.
And we seek refuge from the blazing fire hell.
Regards.
