Default Could Jesus have been African? - 07-17-2006, 03:36 AM

This Black friend is all hyped up about Jesus's ancestry. To him, according to history, Jews came from Egypt after having been slaves there for 400 yrs. They intermarried with Africans and when they returned to Canaan, they would've had a dark complexion because of their African ancestry. I dismissed his ideas as the usual Black American issue- trying to find his identity.

Then coincidentally I was talking to my Dad... (Respected authority on these matters) and he tells me most of the pple in the old testament may very well have been Black. Abraham, Jacob....
This is all new to me. Anyone with evidence or good sources either way?

You did well to dismiss those ideas in the manner you have said.

Does your dad base his ideas on biblical history or his own understanding? It is true that some biblical characters may have been black, but Abraham, Jacob, Judah not. Begin your research by looking at the post Flood period. Proceed to where the Sons of Noah(Shem, Ham, and Japhet) are mentioned together with their descendants. It is here that you will find the origin of black people. We Africans came from HAM; Cush (present day Ethiopia), and Mizraim (present day Egypt), and Phut, and Canaan.
Ge:10:7: And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. He also begat Nimrod the mighty hunter. If you check you history on Migration, African people were always migrating from the north to inhabit the virgin lands southwards.

I do not think that the Israelites stay in the land of Mizraim really interfered with their bloodline. Fast of all Jacob migrated to Africa when there was hunger in Israel. Even though the Children of Jacob lived in Egypt for that long they did not pollute their bloodline with Egyptians and perhaps this explains the reason why Pharaoh grew weary of them. He thought should they continue to breed, they would one day topple the Pharaohs rule. He therefore subjected them to slavery until God heard their cry. It is therefore unlikely that Christ was black.

Here is are some helpful passages that will aid you.
Mathew 1:1-17
Luke 3:23-38

Enjoy the reading.

God bless.

There is a verse in the bible, I believe psalms or proverbs that prohibits one from discriminating against another because of 'his dark skin' that is so due to the sun.

If you believe in evolution, then all men would be descendants from africa. But if u believe in creation, the truth is, they were white.

>But if u believe in creation, the truth is, they were white.

I presume that you will share the details with us soon.

--------------------------------------

Remember, whenever we speak of different "colors" we are referring to different shades of the ONE color, melanin.

Albinos inherit a mutation-caused defect, and therefore they cannot produce melanin......so the end up looking 'white/pink'.

Maybe White people have a small amount of this defect ......and thats why the look white/pink too.

Most likely Noah was a dark brown fellow.:-):-):-)

I have always wondered why people, and the so called intelligent at that, are quick to use double standaards in describing Colour..
I have never seen a truly white person, nor a truly black person ,we all seem to be different shades of brown..
But so long as it is used to make others feel superior for their own purposes, let themm..
ANyway the Jews as we know them in the bible were probably of the same color tone as the people we see there this days..Dark haired arabs I think..Not black or there would be no reference to the Ethiopian as being dsrk, in song of Solomon.....

i think this post should have been called could Jesus have been "black" instead of "African".
people seem to be forgetting countries like egypt and tunisia.

the media has played a big role in this too.
tell me, have you ever seen a movie or a picture with a black Jesus?
these guys didn't know what he looked like and still portrayed him as white.

honestly speaking, i'm at a point where whenever i see a black jesus i just think its wrong.

I'll take Safina's example and say thanks y'all for your comments

TJ, dad comes to these conclusions through his own understanding and by looking at the history of Jews

Kemi, I din't get your 2nd statement either. Care to elaborate? Are you saying God created whites only and blacks are a result of either being sons of Ham or the sun darkening our skin. I know you got more to say.

TM I'm not questioning color per se, but ancestry. Being that Jews at Jesus's time spent a long time in Egypt as slaves, could Jesus have been of African ancestry.

Peter... I hear you.

Reggie, I toyed with that idea, but I din't want a discussion about color, but one about Jesus's heritage and by extension his connection to us.
