no way to know for sure....unless there's something they do to show you that they love the christian God and do his will (alot).

if Jesus had died 20 years ago, would the young catholics be wearing small electric chairs over their necks instead of crosses?

Sometimes I feel as though only God can tell what is truly in someone's heart.

Do you think it is possible for a non-Christian to display fruits of the spirit?

It is difficult to tell just by looking them in the face. Christianity I believe is deep inside and not an outward showbiz.

In that case then it is only proper to say that any person that has Christ in him displays Christ like Characters. Such characters will always be over flowing with love for other people and Love for the lord through obeying his directives.

A true Christian is not one who attends church regularly but one who is the church.
A true Christian is not one who proclaims the name of the Lord but one who believes in the lord.

A christian is someone who loves the lord. Someone who walkes the walk. An example of a good christian is George Bush, Rev. Farwell, Pat Robertson and Moi.

It is only a term used in reference to Christ’s followers. If you are still perusing the bile looking for this word please do so with all your might or decease from now henceforth.

Stick to Islam Dady. I think the question does not concern you. You know when a Muslim becomes a Christian s/he is excommunicated from the family and even the community at large. I guess this is the reason you hold such overflowing bile against that word Christian(s). Like it or not, it shall continue to exist, as long as there exist those people who hate Christ. This term was first used as a derogative way of describing those who followed Christ. This made the early church exceedingly glad because they knew that through following Christ all a manner of ill must plague them.

>How can you tell that someone is a christian?

Just to add on my earlier input I think A true Christian(s) is/are one who

1. Radiate the love of God Jn 13:35, 1 Jn 4:8
Love is paramount and he who does not love does not know God.
Love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and loves God.
God is love and he abides love abides in God and God bides in him.
Love expressed in kindness, graciousness, tolerance and compassion is the most conspicuous sign of a true Christian.

2. Exalts Jesus Christ as the son of God (here Muslims are lacking)
Mat 16:16,18, Rom 10: 9, Acts 4:12, 1Jn 4:15
Unless an individual exalts Jesus Christ as the Son of God and confesses His divinity before men, he is not and cannot be a true Christian.

3. Will honor the bible as the word of God. 2 Tim 3:16,17, Acts 20:32, Rom 15:4, 1 Pet 1:23, 2 Pet 1:21.
A true Christian will therefore revere the bible as inspired word of God just like we see the early Christians doing.

4. Will regard the ten commandments of God as the Holy Law of God.
1 Jn 2:3-6, (if we know Him and we are in Him then we will keep His commandments).
How did Jesus walk? Jn 15:10, Mat 5:17, Isa 42:21.
Christ’s people in the last days of the earth are Rev 14:12.
Therefore the purpose of a true Christian should uphold, magnify and make it honorable.

5. Will observe the seventh as God’s Sabbath.
It is unfathomable that a true Christian could keep nay other day then His days, as the bible clearly points out, it is the Seventh day.
The Sabbath and its observance is an outstanding sign of a true Christian, because it is a sign “between me and you” Exo 31:13, Eze 20:12
I have previously in here said that the Sabbath is not only a memorial of creation but also of sanctification. It was designed to remind God’s people of His power to create and redeem.

6. Will be baptized as illustrated biblically. Mat 28:19, Acts 8:38, Rom 6:3, 4
By allowing himself to be lowered under the water a new Christians signifies his willingness to die to his old life of sin and by rising out of water he declares his determination to live a new life in Christ.

7. Will celebrate the lord’s supper in simplicity.1 Cor 11:23-26,
How simple? Mat 26:20-30, Lk 22:7-20, Mk 14:17-25, Jn 13:14-17
A reverent partaking of bread and wine devoid of pomp and glamour, in memory of the suffering and sacrifice of its fonder should be the practice of a true Christian.

8. Will posses the Gifts of the Spirit. 1 Cor 12:4, 8-11, Eph 4:11-13,
These Gifts are most evident in true Christians.

9. Will be modest in appearance and gentle in spirit.1 Pet 3:1-9
God wants the sort of Christian(s) today. Such Christians manifest the same beautiful spirit both in their private lives and corporate activities.

10. Will be clean living, upright and noble eager to help in all good works.
Titus 2:12,14, 1 Pet 2:11,12,
Ever seeking to emulate their beloved master true Christians will be conspicuous for their upright and noble lives and their eagerness to help the needy.

11. Will eagerly await Christ’s return. Titus 2:13,
Will cherish master’s promise Jn 14:1-3
Will be alert for the promised signs of Christ’s return. Lk 21:25-27
Will watch with vigilance the approaching day of the Lord while constant in prayer. Rev 22:20

Belief in Christ’s second advent is one of the most vital mark of true Christians.

A christian's life is a window through which others can see Jesus. Jesus in various verses (eg. Mat 7:16 & 12:33, Lk 6:44) ndicated that one is known by their fruit. Exhibiting the Fruit of the Spirit (a life controlled by the Holy Spirit) is a clear evidence / indication of who we are.

A Christian confesses and proclaims God's Love, Grace and Mercy that freely comes from God.

On a DAILY basis (John 4:23-24) Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
