Default Tower of Babel - 06-12-2006, 11:58 PM

Extract from a passage in the internet

According to the narrative in Genesis Chapter 11 of the Bible, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by a united humanity to reach the heavens. Because man had it in his heart to be like God, God stopped this project by confusing their languages so that each spoke a different language. As a result, they could no longer communicate with one another and the work was halted. The builders were then scattered to different parts of Earth. This story is used to explain the existence of many different languages and races.

The story is found in Genesis 11:1-9 as follows:
1 Now the entire earth was of one language and uniform words. 2 And it came to pass when they traveled from the east, that they found a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and fire them thoroughly"; so the bricks were to them for stones, and the clay was to them for mortar. 4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered upon the face of the entire earth". 5 And the Lord descended to see the city and the tower that the sons of man had built. 6 And The LORD said, "Lo! [they are] one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they have commenced to do. Now, will it not be withheld from them, all that they have planned to do? 7 Come, let us descend and confuse their language, so that one will not understand the language of his companion". 8 And the Lord scattered them from there upon the face of the entire earth, and they ceased building the city. 9 Therefore, He named it Babel, for there the Lord confused the language of the entire earth, and from there the Lord scattered them upon the face of the entire earth.

The stories in the bible don’t get stranger than this; you may try to sweep it under the carpet but you can’t help to see how ridiculous that story is. In my attempts to popularize science, I am driven by the desire to share my own sense of excitement and awe with the wider community; I want to tell people the good news. I know some Christians are just dumb; if you cracked some of there skulls, they would ooze uji baridi. This is for those smart ones, and the ones that are not afraid to question the flaws in the bible. Regardless what Christians may like to think, it is often pointed out that people are increasingly turning away from the established religions. However, it remains as true as ever that ordinary men and women yearn for some sort of deeper meaning to their lives, what is sometimes loosely referred to as a "spiritual" aspect. Even without debating much, a story like the one I highlighted above will certainly make those brain cells spin. If God was angry with such primitive technology I wonder what’s holding him from destroying Taipei 101. Even with the numerous sophisticated satellites in the outer space, you can’t get close to the Christian God than that. Just imagine I speak kikuyu because of that incidence there; we need a complete overhaul of the bible before all Christians become brain dead. Where that girl is pebbles nibbles to clarify why SDA is better than RCC and Islam. Wololo yayee…..

It was not the construction of the structure per se that caused God to 'confuse their tongue' but rather their stupid and rebelous thinking that they could ascend to heaven on their own effort. God had given man a command to 'fill the earth' and instead of these guys enlarging their borders by moving out under divine protect the choose to revolt by building their own prideful source of foundation.
-Idolatry, Humanism and made-made religions are a simply other modern examples-

Concerning the 'garden of eden' and 'migration' stories, please check this link

My friend, most honest guys will tell you that its because of the demand for living righteous lives that is taking then away from Christianity.

My Brethren, the Gn.11 story is deeper in meaning than just the origin of diversity. It was a Yahwist traditional collection that depicts God as all powerful and omnipotent. It's a tradition noted in creation stories, patriarchs, dessert journey, psalms, poetry and songs.
