Default Bible Controversy - 06-03-2006, 01:38 AM

For the next few years I will pose some questions here to show how ridiculous and flawed the Bible is. I will start with Genesis.

There are un-Biblical legends that Adam had a wife before Eve who was named Lilith. The legends vary significantly, but they all essentially agree that Lilith left Adam because she did not want to submit to him. According to the legends, Lilith was an evil, wicked woman who committed adultery with Satan and produced a race of evil creatures. the story proved controversial, it was struck off from the bible but it is supported in the torah.

If Adam and Eve gave birth to Kane and Able who did Kane and Able marry and how did their wives get there?
Cain killed Able, so Able did not marry. Cain was cast out, then in (Gen.4:17) And Cain knew his wife Where did Cain find a wife?

First thing first. The Torah is part of the Tanakh or the Jewish Bible. The Torah basically is the five books of Moshe/Moses or the Pentateuch. Then there are History books called Nevi'im. Ketuvim are considered classical writings that entail Praises to Elohim, prayers and moral teachings. The Ketuvim includes Psalms, Proverbs, Ruth, Ecclesiastes and Job.

Some useful info on the Tanakh:

Now Lilith is a famous demon in Jewish Folklore. Her story is very controversial. For a sneak peek on Lilith, check out:

Your contest isn't new because it has existed over the ages. The bible exists beyond doubts and it's the proven living word of God. In the years 1200 - 1000BC there was a great spiritual awakening among the jews and as such, there arose a period of judges. These were spiritual leaders, priests and prophets who warned Israelites of their wicked ways which were destroying their relationship with God. There was nothing like a collection of the torah untill in exile in 587 - 539BC. Well, the bible stories begin with King Josiah wanting to reform the jerusalem temple and there by finding a lost manuscript which guides him.

The Israelites wanted to know why they were who they are (chosen of people of God) and their relationship with God. So Genesis is part of an explanation of who they were and why they were in exile. In actual sense, most of the bible stories are adoptions from diverse communities existing then. They may never have existed in the first case yet they teach us alot in who God is to us.

The bible comes from the Greek word "ta biblia" which means the books. It's a collection of many individual works and not a product of one person. The NT has 27 books while the OT has 39 books (protestant and jewish) and 46 in catholic editions.

According to geologists the earth is four billion years oldand humans have been around two million of those years. The authors of Genesis didn't care much about this history and possibly they may not have known.Instead they wished to sketch a few highlights about human origins that had particular religious significance for Israel's view of life. A record of their ancestors helps them understand how they came to be a people and a nation. Thus Genesis is dedicated 80% to founding patriarchs who include Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Only 20% is left for creation and life. Note that we can't speak of a true sense of national history in Israel until the time of the exodus, which is also contested as to whether it really happened!
