The 23rd Channel -
05-10-2006, 10:36 AM
The folowing paraphrase of Psalm 23 that i saw somewhere made me stop and ask myself just how healthy is TV viewing?
The tv is my shepherd
I shall want more
It makes me lie down on the sofa
It leads me away from the faith
It destroys my soul
It leads me to the paths of sex and violence for the sponsor's sake
Yea, though i walk in the shadow of christian responsibilities
There will be no interruption, for the tv is with me
Its cable and remote control, the comfort me
It prepares a commercial for me
In the presence of my worldliness
It annoints my head with humanism and consumerism
My coveting runneth over
surely laziness and ignorance shall follow me all the days of my life
and i shall dwell in the house of tv watching forever!

TV nay not just TV but the media as a whole should play the role of informing the audience entertaining and Educating, but in the last few years we have continued to see the media deviate from executing these noble roles to airing and printing absurdities. Foul schedules have become the order of the day on TV. Infact I could quite clearly say that the media is serving an evil cause, just by watching TV. The audience will concur that hardly a day passes presently without the audience being subjected to This program contains SVNL, viewer discretion is advised. A thing I never used to see when KBC was the only Channel and all programs perceived to be immoderate were aired after we were escorted to bed, even though they never use to contain any obscene material.
Someone once said that the media exist to play the rhythm of other more superior persons behind the executing crew. I agree this is true. The media is furthering satanic agendas, thus it has become one of the most effective tools in spreading Satans ideals. Ideals that not only come in form of programs, but also advertisements.
One thing we must know is that,
the heart is deceitful and keeps on desiring evil says the bible. It is therefore incumbent upon ourselves to fight these evil zeal. One cannot claim to be a warrior until they have subdued the lust of the heart. We are born tainted in the original sin and therefore there exists so much evil that is always begging to pop out of us.
As a born again fellow I would urge my Christian brothers to minimize the viewing of TV and effectively guarding their children against extensive Tv watch
"The whole world, from President [George W.] Bush downwards, was engaged in trying to strike a power-sharing deal. If that power-sharing deal made Odinga number three, we'd have never accepted it." - Salim Lone

That is why it (TV) does not reside in my home. It spews too much garbage to risk it's looming image in my humble abode. Sifting through commercils and skimpy dressed cheer girls and grown men running after nothing is sickening. Out it went with it's guide! It will be the death of many a home. Guard the avenue of the soul jealously. You become what you behold....by beholding you become changed.

Hehe pebbles, my friend doesnt own a tv either. Quite interesting. Saves his money and time.
Enyewe I've also come to loath that screen box. I never fail to remind my youngest sister that she missed Ivy school because of it. The young generation has simply lost control and parents should really rethink having one. One of the greatest Neurosurgeons in the world Ben Carson has himself repeatedly told how tv supressed his potential until he was often the laughing stock in class.
As for me, one will only catch me watching discovery, pbs or C-span once in a blue moon and occasionally american idol. World cup ni lazima though :).

The Stranger
A few months before I was born, my dad met a stranger who was new to our town. From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family. The stranger was quickly accepted and was around to welcome me into the world a few months later.
As I grew up I never questioned his place in our family. Mom taught me to love the Word of God, and Dad taught me to obey it, but the stranger was our storyteller. He could weave the most fascinating tales. Adventures, mysteries and comedies were daily conversations. He could hold our whole family spellbound for hours each evening.
He was like a friend to the whole family. He took Dad, Bill and me to our first major league baseball game. He was always encouraging us to see the movies, and he even made arrangements to introduce us to several movie stars.
The stranger was an incessant talker. Dad didn't seem to mind, but sometimes Mom would quietly get up while the rest of us were enthralled with one of his stories of faraway places, go to her room, read her Bible and pray. I wonder now if she ever prayed that the stranger would leave.
You see, my dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but this stranger never felt an obligation to honor them. Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our house - not from us, from our friends, or adults. Our long-time visitor, however, used occasional four-letter words that burned my ears and made Dad squirm. To my knowledge the stranger was never confronted.
My Dad was a teetotaler who didn't permit alcohol in his home, not even for cooking, but the stranger felt like we needed exposure and enlightened us to other ways of life. He offered us beer and other alcoholic beverages often. He made cigarettes look tasty, cigars manly and pipes distinguished. He talked freely (much too freely) about sex. His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive and generally embarrassing. I know now that my early concepts of the man/woman relationship were influenced by the stranger.
As I look back, I believe it was because of the grace of God that the stranger did not influence us more. Time after time he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked and never asked to leave.
More than thirty years have passed since the stranger moved in with the young family on Morningside Drive. But if I were to walk into my parents' den today, you would still see him sitting over in a corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures.
His name?
We always just called him TV.

I need my TV to watch PBS, HBO, BBC, Flix, Cooking Channel, occasional CNN, History Channel, Cartoon Network and the Foxsports channel for updates on soccer. Peepz say TV is evil, but with free choice, we have the power to choose that which will sustain us, even spiritually.

LOL team manager that was cool, interesting perspective.
Chotadipo manze ur crazy ati where in the bible did tv exist.. u seem like one of those brutally honest pplz. I love tv but i aint got enuff time to watch TV which makes me love it even mroe when i have time. Lost my fav show, BET, Much Vibe, Discovery etc. sometimes im not even watchin tv I just lie there in front of the TV and it puts me to sleep...There is nuthin wrong with TV unless u give up ur life for TV, or young kids who spend all day and night on TV instead of playin Kati or rounders outside, damn American children they dont play outside in fear of getting sunburns which lead to skin cancer... so they would rather die of obesity.
