Default God and the "Male" figure!! - 09-06-2005, 05:20 PM

Get me right! I am not saying that's how it is. Based on my christianity education this si what i have found out:

The Bible potrays God as the father..meaning a man not a woman.
Jesus himself was a man not a woman.
All twelve disciples were men not women.
All the fore fathers and MAJOR prophets were men not women.
Even all the new testament books were written by men not women.

To name just a few, why would God let it happen in such a way that men seem to dominate the bible/world even in religion? Being God he had the power to set things the way he wanted (gender equality i guess.)

Correct me if i am wrong, otherwise tell me why it is that way!

Why are you so quick to forget Mary, the mother of God?

The verse Genesis 1:27 'So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them' shows that women, as much as men, are COMPLETELY made in the image of God. THEREFORE the word FATHER must mean much more than MALE.

I guess language has always being a problem when trying to describe God. No language will adequately be able to describe Him. Maybe father was the closest to show His position, His relational love towards us etc etc

TeamManager, there you go again quick to quote the bible, yet having no full understanding of what you quote means. The physical form of a male and female are no way the same or do not share the same image. In my opinion, "in his own image" is a lot deeper than the physical form, but rather the soul and the consiousness. If you first forward to the coming of Jesus, we are told that He took the form of a man. If the physical body is of the same image as God's, as you insinuate above, why then say Jesus took the form of a man?

God is SPIRIT. Man (and Woman) is more than flesh but a spirit and soul too. The flesh will one day die but the spirit lives forever.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the lack of respect and acknowledgement Mary, the mother of God, gets. TeamManager, mister self proclaimed friend of Jesus, how do you suppose Jesus your saviour came into this world in order to die on the cross and save you? Are you of the opinion he was delivered by the stork?

Just what would you think of an individual who claims to be a good friend of yours but tells you he has no time for your mother?

GEN 2:18... And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air.......... but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him........

i dont know the connection between this verse and the one above, but it seems to me women were created as an after-thought brought about by Adam's need for help.

The interesting thing is the first option god gave man for a "help" were the animals. After Adam realized that hippos and warthogs just weren't doing it for him, then god decided to make him a woman. Kinda shows where god places women on his scales of importance.

The reason men dominate women, why god is male, and why women are so irrelevant in most religions is because god was created by man, man wrote the rules of religion, and so man placed himself above women. So man carried his chauvinistic ways onto his gods. It even happens in religions with many deities, coz the goddesses are always evil conniving biyatches.

In a nutshell, the Bible is one long list of attrocities against women, it totally demeans women over and over again:

- it clearly puts women as second class citizens to men
- it equates women as property owned by men
- it says that when women are on their periods they are considered unclean by god and so they shouldn't step into his presence
- it says that god only accepts sacrifices of male animals
- it says that when a woman gives birth to a son she's unclean for 33 days but if it's a daughter she's unclean for 66 days
- it says God wanted to meet all the Israelite males thrice a year but not the females
- it says if a man sleeps with a woman who's engaged, she has to die, while he can offer a ram as a sacrifice and he'll be Ok
- ETC ETC ETC

Too many other examples too numerous to mention. I honestly don't understand how a woman can worship a god who is so demeaning towards women, to me it's like a black guy joining the KKK ...
