What's that Jesus says - that he came for the lost not for those that were already "found". Clearly you aren't walking in his footsteps TM, we are the ones you should be focusing your message on, not those "Christians" who I assume already know it. But, like Jarabuon always says, the above is a typical TM reply - extremely arrogant and condescending.
You still didn't answer my basic question - do you have any problem with your kids hearing stories where god wiped out millions of innocent kids because of things that the kids did not do? Would you censor that from them or not? If someone told them a story of a 4-week-old kid drowning agonizingly in Swaziland because god was pissed off at some guys in the Middle East hence he decided to flood the whole world, would you allow your kids to listen? Or if someone told them how thugs came and hacked to death Job's 14 kids because of a bet god had with Satan, would you be OK with them listening to that. Or if the story was about god accepting an innocent virgin girl as a human sacrifice? Or if ... OK, I can put another hundred examples of god killing innocent kids, but you get my point.
My view is simple and I assume most rational people will agree with me: if it's OK for John Doe to let his kids hear gory details about innocent kids being killed, but John Doe has major beef against those same kids hearing a song where two unmarried people are kissing, then John Doe's principles and priorities are seriously f*cked up.

i'm a christian who listens to and dances to secular music... TM you have a point, some lyrics are downright disgusting, but some are really ok and fun to bob the head to

Think of secular music as a form of story-telling and poetry. There are a lot of poets and story-tellers out there.
I like music that is uplifting, danceable and soothing. I have a song for every ocassion. For instance I penda music by Tracy Chapman cos she's poetically sentimental. Bob Marley is another favorite cos he was very spiritual. He was also a griot and he reported things he saw in Trenchtown one of the poorest places in Jamaica, even today. I have love song favorites and freaky song favorites as well..Besides, the Bible has love songs also.. What do u call the Song of Solomon? I'll give an example:
Song of Solomon 4:5
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.
It is human nature to be freaky, otherwise there'd be no children born today. One of my anthropology professor says that we all products of an accidents cos we are so freaky that we don't get time for Coitus interruptus.
Anyway, I still have my Gospel favorites: Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin. Some Gospel music I avoid cos it can sound downright depressing as though mtu anaomboleza.
I think striking a balance isn't so difficult.

I agree. Whatever falls within these boundaries should be OK.

The contents really matter. 'Sing a song' is no excuse to teach/learn deceptive philosophy or trash

TM, saa zingine you should give some comments a pass.
To para-phrase what you've said, listen to music that glorifies God. And there is no shortage of singers. I have a whole sanduku of CD's (soon to buy 40G ipod). The good thing about Christian music is that they (mostly) sing about positive stuff. There's reggae, funk, rap, metal etc etc.
I like to listen to Mercy Me, Audio Adrenaline, Israel Houghton, Casting Crowns, Bebo, Building 429, point of grace, cece, kirk, carman, chapman, w smith, jeremy, plus 1, donny, milele, ester wahome, munishi, etc etc. Just give me some guiter I am set.
