Aren't you a pastor TM... yaani you get paid by the church then you give 10% of it back? as the pastor of the church, don't u have descretion as to how church funds are spent? (that 10% u just gave back hehehehehe) another swali, is ur paycheck taxed?

its about freedom to chose what to do with ur chumes. with the 10% tithe requirement, u lose that kafreedom. besides why does a spirit (GOD) need chumes, only humans need chumes... pastors with mortgages and car payments.

>Aren't you a pastor TM...
No, I have never preched a sermon in a Church......but I am a Christian who speaks out 'the reason for my hope'.
>another swali, is ur paycheck taxed?
Yes my pay is taxed. BTW even our Pastors in Church have to pay tax and all other compusory deductions.
>its about freedom to chose what to do with ur chumes.
>with the 10% tithe requirement, u lose that kafreedom.
I tithe cause I am free. Please never give If its out of being 'forced'. Freely give and you will be blessed.....the shaked-down style.
>besides why does a spirit (GOD) need chumes, only humans
>need chumes...
Yes, God does not require money BUT ours is an act of worship and the money goes to meeting various needs in the Church.
I AM GIVING MINE TO GOD ..... what about YOU??
One of us is free and the other is in bondage.....Guess WHO?

@TM,
Quick question, you might know that many pastors(in Kenya) generally use offerings (including tithe) as their own personal piggy banks. They go around asking the congregation to toa money coz they want to upgrade their car and such kind of bull instead ya kuendeleza Gods work.
If i dont want to be party to such nonsense, is it okay if i give my tithe to a needy cause eg a children's home?

The key to tithing is finding a good church. many a pastors have failed to differentiate between their needs and the church's need. they operate as if they themselves are the church and thus end up being the MAIN beneficiaries of the offerings. This is wrong.

My take: It does not matter who you give the tithe to, as long as you are doing it for the right reasons. Money can be misused by whoever receives it. But as someone once told me; "Just because its an act of faith does not mean you do it blindly," i.e. do your homework before you decide where to take your tithe.

Tithe giving is one of the most mis-understood doctrines in christianity today!
Tithe doesnt have to take the form of money!
Even devoting your time to worship and do God's work amount to tithe giving.considering the amount of time you spend working and all.

@Cookie,
Believe you me, its easier said than done. For one, you know most of these one man/woman churches are the most notorious when it comes to such issues.
I am an Anglican by birth and i was very pissed off the other day when there was that saga of Peter Njoka and the City council. The scandal was that this pastor used to be paid for prayers, in advance even. And the head of the church, Nzimbi did nothing! (Meaning that maybe he condones such wayward behaviour)
Then there is the issue of Catholic church and homosexuality, which they keep trying to cover up.
Now pray tell me, where do i turn to?
