Why are Some Africans so self destructive? -
03-28-2005, 07:03 PM
There is this Swedish channel that always airs African documentaries, from rural and urban areas including Kenya.
I can't remember the specific country{ my mind is kinda tired will tell the country when i remember}
lakini i was shocked beyond belife that some practices actually exist!
There was some two women suffering from some strange disease, and they don't have an actual doctor in the village, they have this Mganga cum Daktari who is multipurpose. So the guy sets his uchawi's on the ground, and the two women are covered with leso's and the mganga who barely looks 20 yrs old, starts to chant some in coherent stuff.
No sooner had he engaged in a sharp tone, the women started to roll on the ground! The guy in the background is explaining they have been possesed by good spirits that cure you of sicknesses!
The final stage into curinng them was the Mganga slitting his wrists, and slitting the womens, with the same knife mind you, then poured the blood into a ka basin and ordered them to drink it and after that declared them healed!!
Now if that mganga had used the same knife on himself and two other different women, then perhaps cured some extra patients isn't that a health hazard? Why are africans so self destructive? I feel so sad seeing such practices occuring in this day and age, and yet some people still complain that they want to preserve the culture that is evidently going to kill us one by one.
Some practices have to be killed, before they kill everyone.
Bana Africa needs education badly. We need someone to save us from our selves.

The answer is simple. Just just un'shaggsmodize the shaggsmodo'z and everything will be fine cuz they be the one's sticking to those stupid traditions of witch craft, juju's, voodoo'z etc and i don't believe in such shyiet and i can volunteer to be taken to "HAITI" where they claim the craziest Voodoo stuuf is, and i'll come back unscathed! To hell with some of these stupid rituals.

Kwanza I usually watch "On Africa" If you live In Baltimore it comes on every Thursday from 8.00PM on PBS ( channel 19) They usually do a documentary on different African Countries and stuff. Sometimes when I'm done watching... am surprised at some of the things they show, surprisingly they have never shown any Urban setting (cities, towns) they usually go to shaggz and do the documentary huko.... which I dont have a problem, problem is when the media potrays Africa to be a certain way people take it @ media value...like when they show people hunting, digging farms with their hands, pple running after the kuku to slaughter it, witch Doctors, people drinking and bathing in the rivers, stuff like thay... thats what people wanna beleive... So when you try and tell people that its not the same everywhere they dont believe you...coz the media looks more truthful...I am just thinking they should diversify
Just my opinion

Zelda,
At the risk of starting another argument with you am going to answer that, yeah modern medicine is better coz it exercises more caution, engages in ethics and has obvious results.

What's the legitimacy of modern medicine got to do with the simple fact that using the same blade on many people at once, unsterilized, to slit wrists (a sure way to induce profound bleeding) and having folks drink others blood exposes them to God knows how many health risks.
If you want to take a religious angle to this, then I do believe the Bible somewhere states that one should not consume any blood or foods made with blood as one of the ingredients.
PS. I won't bother going into HIV/AIDS coz that's a no-brainer.
Step away from that idiot.. I'm certified!

True. But I am sure you know folk will always be doing that to get you irked and see what you are all about. Trick is not to get irked.

Familiar with the "ie" rule. Well am not. If the boys at Nyayo House were to capture me, they can do to me what they wish but please please pleeease don't let them them put me through a spelling bee with words like piece, sieve, achieve deceive, relieve, reprieve, heave... noooooo I cant take it anymore!!! The pain, the agony, the durama the sheer overacting and overkill }(.
LOL. Anyway that's just the way I am. My minds Wired to make me act the Weirdo.
Has me chuckling at folk trying to spell it right though.
Step away from that idiot.. I'm certified!
