I think deliverance is an acknowledgement of what God has done thorough his work at calvary. You are actually free, but your mind has no realization of it. For example, i was sexually-molested by the housemaid when i was 3-4 years old. It wasn`t until i was 24 that i remembered what happened. At that age, i could do nothing but laugh, coz the plans of the enemy did not work. This incident happened before i received Christ, so i had no control over it. I later received Christ at 12
This is my point, there are some things that might have happened way before you were born again, that are the enemy`s handiwork. The moment you receive Christ, satans plans are broken. So God has to show you the riches of his mercy. Without knowing the riches of his salvation e.g what he has delivered you from, where the enemy had laid plans and foundations but failed, our benefits as christians etc.. then you will not appreciate the preciousness of Christ. So, my point is God may show you areas\situations in your life that the enemy has tried to lay his foundation, but has failed coz of the work at calvary. So, deliverance is acknowledging, that God`s power has set you free from bondage
