Default How does God speak to us???? - 02-19-2004, 06:30 PM

I know one way in which God speaks to us is through His word, the Bible, but people say that God speaks to them in their heart. How do you know that it is God speaking and not just your inner thoughts? Or is the conscience one way in which God speaks to us?

Another gray area, but a dangerous one .. The devil also uses our suggestibility to thoughts..a few thoughts and suggestions repeatedly and there we go.. Me I know if it is in line with Gods word and you feel that ka inexplicable peace,it is probably who you think It is ..
But Our feelings and thoughts are hardly adequate..I know this, God is spirit and he operates through spirit...the More Intimate you are with him,the More sensitive you are to him..The more we seek him ,the More he reveals himself to us..and when God wants Our attention,he ussually gets it..I guess the best way is to seek him, and he will know when and how he will infact talk to Us...And some say he does talk..
But have you ever had a feeling about something and see it come to pass..Interesting

God uses the Bible, other people (prechers, neighbour, friends, enemies), circumstances and some time He speaks directly to us. A point of caution, when God speaks directly to you, you will know it is him. There is no where in the Bible when God spoke directly to people and did not know it was him. Disobedience sometimes clouds His voice. If you have already made up your mind to do something that is contray to God's way, you will definately miss his voice.

God loves us and still longs to communicate with us.

My response would be: be it "inner thoughts, the conscience, neighbours, family, friends, ministers, etc," must be in harmony with the word of God. If it is contrary to the word of God then there is no light in it. For example, a married couple may have "inner thoughts of leaving their spouse" because he/she thinks that she/he doesn't love him/her anymore. With the kind of flippant theology going on now with the likes of Ahab, the party involved would leave their spouse. Is it scriptural? Of course not. One can only leave their spouse when there is ADULTERY OR DEATH involved and no other reason is supported biblically. The test of all things is through the word of God.

Pebbles.

Yes, and how do you hear God's voice in your heart? I know when I do wrong definitely God speaks to me and tells me what I'm doing is wrong so I repent. Lakini, like when I want to make a decision about something and I need to consult God you know day to day living, I can't exactly go read the Bible all the time? So that still small voice that people talk about, I don't hear it, I just hear myself or is that God? How do you know?

yep ,it is definitely hard to keep reading The word everytime you need help on a situation but if you know the whole bible, the appropriate word always comes to mind...Read the whole bible,it is a worthwhile investment...Try www.ttb.org and try reading in sync with the guy there..He goes through the whole Bible in 5 years ,and if you join him now ,He is on Isiah..he actually makes it Intersting and easier..

5 years? I was told that if I read three chapters a day, I can finish the Bible in one year.
