Default Runaway Shopping Carts - 12-08-2003, 10:23 AM

We should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about
with every wind of doctrine!
----------------------------------------------------------------
It was a cold, brisk, and gusty morning as I drove the usual roads on
my way to work. The wind blew fiercely, scattering leaves, papers, and debris all about. A few brave people walked along, huddled into the warmth of their winter coats, as the rush of the wind quickly helped them down the street. Even my car was jostled as I traveled along.

Nearing a shopping center, I saw two shopping carts in front of some
small stores zipping along at top speed through the parking lot. Not a person or car was in sight in the parking lot as the runaway carts
picked up more speed, driven by the increasing force of the wind.
I thought, What if a car pulls around the corner? That would be
disastrous!

As I waited at the red light I continued to watch the carts, praying
that no one would drive through the parking lot at that moment, unaware of the situation. One cart soon hit a curb and was immediately stopped in its tracks. The other one passed through one intersection of the parking lot and continued on its course. I knew it was inevitable that there would be a crash, either with a parked car or a moving one, and its crash course would instantly end. The light changed and I continued to check my rearview mirror, watching as the shopping cart was tossed to and fro.

Often we allow ourselves to wander away from the safety and security of our Lord and foolishly vacillate here and there in our thinking, tossed and blown, driven by foolish ideas, unrealistic desires, or erroneous doctrine. Like those unrestrained shopping carts, we breeze through life, oblivious to the harm we could do as we continue on our collision course. At some point we will be stopped, and then there will be damage assessment and restoration to the injured. Thank God, when we remain in His territory we will be grounded in Him forever.

Lord, help me (us) not to be swept up in Satan's windstorms and carried away from Your safety and security. Amen.
