@pebbles,
It is interesting to note the the sabbath is part of the 10 commandments given to Moses on Mount sinai. The 10 commandments are still binding on all who follow Christ. However, they are but a mirror that reflect the nature of man, ie that man is sinful and in need of a savior. The law on its own cannot justify a person. This is clearly stated in Romans 3:19-20.
"Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin".
Furthermore, the apostle Paul says that a man is justified not by observing the Law but by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 3:28, "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law". This is the reason Jesus said, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath".
There is not a person on the face of the earth that can keep all 10 of the commandments all the time. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". In fact the Jews tried to even harder to kill Jesus because he was 'BREAKING' the sabbath. John 5:18. The scriptures also says in James 2:10 "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it." Granted every single human being breaks the 10 commandments everyday, not just the one about keeping the sabbath. People kill, steal, take the Lord's name in vain, envy and covet their neighbors goods etc etc. The point I'm making is this, by observing the law you will never be justified. You can only be justified by faith through Jesus Christ. Romans 3:21-22.
