Should African Celebrate Christmas???? -
01-04-2003, 12:46 PM
I think this commercialised holiday is not meant for Africans. During this time most African societies were celebrating Harvest season, thanking ancestors for good yields and preparing to start planting season.
Africans need to come up with a certain celebration, like the way jews celebrate Hanukka, and African-American, Kwanzaa.
Any African who celebrate Christmas, is a great betrayal to himself herself.

>What does religion have to do with race?
To try to answer your question, religion is practiced by people who belong to a certain race. Everybody in this world can be categorised in a ceratain race. Black, brown, red, or white, basically.
For example those people who have acted movies, that depicts Jesus Christ as a 'white' person, is because they are white.
Religion is kind of a reflection of who people are, actually like culture. Race reflect the philosophy of the religion. Probably people invented religion. It was not there, in the first place.
If you tell us more about your race, and your religion, the I can try and answer your question more.
I hope you are not arguing in a 'blind' faith cocoon.

>Any African who celebrate Christmas, is a great betrayal to himself >herself.
speak for urself!
it's true xmas is commercialized but that does not necessarily mean that all those that acknowledge the holiday celebrate it by going all out in buying gifts, partying etc. Some people do actually celebrate the season in fellowship and rejoice over the birth of a messiah. Purporting that Africans should single themselves out as some african americans have with the Kwanzaa tradition is blind and misleading. Sure, if we even had the xmas concept before the coming of xtianity then maybe u can come up with a tradition but alas Proletariat xmas came with xtianity!

>To try to answer your question, religion is practiced by people who belong to a certain race.
?????WTH are you on about? I didn't think that it was practised by animals, and everyone belongs to one race or another, so your point is?
>Everybody in this world can be categorised in a ceratain race. Black, brown, red, or white, basically.
Excuse me for stating the obvious, but aren't those colours?
>For example those people who have acted movies, that depicts Jesus Christ as a 'white' person, is because they are white.
Stop sniffing glue. Are you trying to tell me the hottentots depict Jesus as black, because they think he was black? Even if they knew otherwise, what are their options getting a white, brown, yellow or green person to portray him? It'n not like those coloured people are wandering around the Kalahari now, is it?
>Religion is kind of a reflection of who people are, actually like culture.
CUSTOMS are a reflection of people's culture, Religion is a reflection of their FAITH.
>Race reflect the philosophy of the religion.
??? Ok, I get it, you're yanking my chain now, right?
>Probably people invented religion.
It could have been apes, for all you know.
>It was not there, in the first place.
Really? I thought religion happened in a vacuum, and we came along and adopted it.
>If you tell us more about your race, and your religion, the I can try and answer your question more.
Thanks, but no thanks. Your brand of logic wouldn't fetch the proverbial a penny a thought.
>I hope you are not arguing in a 'blind' faith cocoon.
For want of better things to do, I asked a dumb question, that just bit me in the butt. I'll be sure not to ask you again.
