Is Holy Communion a form of Human Cannibalism????? -
11-22-2002, 12:04 PM
When Jesus taught Christians that they should pertake Holy Communion, Last Supper his (flesh and blood), isn't this not teaching that human beings should eat other human beings?
Why did Jesus want his disciples/followers to be eating his body? I think human beings should not be eaten, symbolically, or whatsoever.
Again, since Jesus taught his followers to be eating his body(bread) and drinking his blood(wine) why can't Christians in Kenya, use muratina, busaa, or kumi kumi for this fuction, instead of using Western wine/champagne(sp)?
If a human being succumb to eating of another human being as a form of faith, what can we conclude of such a human being?
Can I hear why cannibalism is practised by Christians. Even muslims don't eat Muhammad, and Jews don't eat Moses.

One of the best things to understand about the Gospel / Bible is that the message being given is either Literal or Spiritual. As regards the Holy Communion, this is definately a Spiritual in that Jesus did not actually expect his disciples to eat his physical body. What He was talking about is partaking of the spiritual 'body' which is the message that you would find in the very famous John 3:16. Addittionally Jesus does say that He will not partake of this feast with His disciples untill He comes back which will be a Literal sense.
Ubarikiwe !

>Spiritual in that Jesus did not actually expect his disciples

What does eating of the bread symbolises then? If it is the message he talked about, then it can be found, read in the Bible but not eaten.
Also John 3:16 talks about God giving his only 'begotten' son, which raises questions about Jesus' perternity.
Can you explain exactly why Holy communion is practiced in Christianity, and if you pertake it, you explain why.

The bread used in the Holy Communion signifies the Church. The Church is composed of Jesus as the head and belivers as the body. We as belivers through eating of the bread demonstrate unity and fellowship we have the Lord Jesus and with other believers. Amongst the Luhyias were I come from, when you visit a house during lunch everyone including the visitor feeds from a central ugali. If you visited a Luhyia house and are served ugali separate its better not to eat as they probably don't like you ! This as we know signifies friendship and openess.
The Holy Communion as practiced amongst Christians comes from the Bibilical record of the Last Supper. At that time Jesus was with his disciples celebrating the ancient Jewish feast of Passover where the nation of Israel remebered their God and His deliverance of them from Egypt. According to scripture God commanded Israel to forever keep the feast He instituted during the night of the Passover when His angel went through the land of Egypt claiming the lives of the first born sons of each household that did not have its door frame marked with the blood of the lamb.
In my earlier post I had mentioned about the Spiritual and Literal elements of the Bible. The passover on that night in Egypt was a literal event that also was prophesying a spiritual event in the future ( Jesus time ). During the Last Supper, God in person ( Jesus Christ ) instituted a new covenant with all those who wish to be called His people. Whilst the old Passover was primarily a a day for the Jewish community to remember how the blood of the slaughtered lamb saved them from the smiting hand of God that killed all the first-born of Egypt, today the new Passover - the Holy Communion - is a reminder to all Christians that Christ the Passover lamb has been slain and His blood has spared us of eternal death. This is the reason why I celebrate the Holy Communion, I have been delivered from an eternal Egypt ( the abscence of God , Hell, the World and its ruler Satan etc the descriptions are many ). It is also an oppurtunity to reflect and be thankful of Christ's saving grace and an opputunity to repent and renew my determination to love the Lord more by giving my life to serve Him.
