I'm going to address this first because I generally agree with your other points with a few minor exceptions. I don't think that I've implied that religion is irrelevant, I asked what connection there was between religion and the points raised. After your clarification, I pointed out the ambiguities that creep into this sort of discussion. Once we start looking at the issue of religion regionally,on a country by country basis or communally for that matter, we multiply the variables exponentially to a point where there can be no generalization. My point is, disregard boundary and these would be rather obvious conclusions:

1. There is an increase in the need for the spiritual which people find in different forms, one of them being religion. Your point that religions are healthy would support that.

2.There is a desire to separate the functions of the "church" and "state". People are uncomfortable with what they see as the interference from the state in matters religious and vice versa. Again this is a general observation. if we start digging into region and country then of course there will be deviations.

Conclusion..drats I'm going to have to repeat myself again! :-)

No, I would not impose my spirituality on others and yes I'm VERY sure. Learnt a long time ago, to each his/her own. You shouldn't have asked me about being head of state though..that just sets off the megalomaniac in me!
