IS THERE A GOD? -
10-11-2001, 09:21 PM
I have yet to get a good response to this question. When I was younger I settled for the church explanations but they don't seem to hold much water right now.

Yes there is a God.
There definitly is someone out there more powerful than the human being. That is who is referred to as God.
The fact that you have never had a good response to this question is probably because you sought the answer from the wrong place. The church - not Mosque or Gurudwara - is definitely not the place.
Unfortunately, I have no idea as to where you can seek an answer to your question.

If it's all about belief, what's to stop me from believing in juju, ghosts, geenees, witchcraft, evil spirits, Miss Cleo, Palm readers etc?

We'll people i just had to speak on this. as controversial as it may sound this is It just had to be said.....
:+
Mystical explanations are considered deep. The truth is that they are not even superficial. Thats why human beings wil always look for a scape goat whenever anything goes right or wrong & they always turn to Relegion/God.
My argument on this is as nietzche would say...
What is good?--Whatever augments the feeling of power, the will to power, power itself, in man.
What is evil?--Whatever springs from weakness.
What is happiness?--The feeling that power increases--that resistance is overcome.
Not contentment, but more power; not peace at any price, but war; not virtue, but efficiency (virtue in the Renaissance sense, virtu, virtue free of moral acid).
The weak and the botched shall perish: first principle of our charity. And one should help them to it.
What is more harmful than any vice?--Practical sympathy for the botched and the weak-- Relegion...
The way i see it as Napoleon would say "Religion is excellent stuff for keeping the common people quiet."
The greatest single cause of athiesm in the world today is Christians who acknowledge these with their lips and walk out the door and deny them by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.
The most ridiculous concept ever perpetrated by H.Sapiens is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of the Universes, wants the sacharrine adoration of his creations, that he can be persuaded by their prayers, and becomes petulant if he does not recieve this flattery. Yet this ridiculous notion, without one real shred of evidence to bolster it, has gone on to found one of the oldest, largest and least productive industries in history.
What happens when we're dead? The irony is that all our questions wil be answered after we die. We spend our whole life trying to figure out the truth and the only way we'll find out what it is, is to get hit by a bus. And the only comfort that religion offers is that God is driving that bus.
AS much as this may raise a lot of eyebrows just remember that "If you can't argue against what you believe in, then you shouldn't be arguing for it in the first place." -- Blair Scott
:)
Cheers people.
p.s
I am not an Athiest nor anti-relegion but some things just have to be said....

So far as I can remember, there is not one word in the Gospels in praise of intelligence.
but on a much lighter side..
Let Jesus be your anchor! So when Satan rocks your boat, throw Jesus overboard!
here'z a break down:-
Taoism: Sh!t happens
Hare krishna: Sh!t happens Rama Rama Ding Ding
Hinduism: This sh!t has happened before
Islam: That sh1t happens is the will of Allah
Zen: What is the sound of sh!it happening?
Existentialism: Sh1t doesn't happen; sh1t is
Buddhism: When sh!t happens, is it really sh!t?
Confucianism: Confucius say, "Sh1t happens"
7th day Adventist: Sh!t happens on Saturdays
Protestantism: Sh!t won't happen if I work harder
Protestantism: If sh!t happens, it happens to someone else
Catholicism: If sh1t happens, you deserved it
Jehovah's Witnesses: Knock, knock, "Sh1t happens"
Jehovah's Witnesses: No sh1t happens until Armaggedon
Unitarian: What is this sh!t?
Mormon: Sh!t happens again & again & again
Judaism: Oy vey! Why does this sh!t always happen to us?
Pentacostalism: Praise the sh!t!
Atheism: There is no sh!t!
New Age: Sh1t happens and it happens to smell good
Rastafarianism: Let's smoke this sh!t
Sh1!t Happens, in various World Religions
:)

Of course there is a God and he rests on top of the Holy Kirinyaga (Mt. Kenya).
