Are you asking the question so someone can show you God? Tell you exactly who He is? Show you were he lives? Because if that is your purpose you will never be satisfied b/c there are many answers. If you want to know God if question Him look for him yourself. No one can find God for you, you have to find Him yourself.

God (or something certainly much greater than ourselves) exists. We may not see him (her?) and he may not talk to us but like others have said here- it's all a matter of believing and having faith.
The existence of God is not necessarily tied to organized religion. This means it's not up to a pastor, priest, rabbi, sheikh etc to tell you that there is a God. You have to seek God on your own.

Before I Embark on the arduous task of responding to your query to the best of my ability and knowledge, Let me first of all pardon myself lest I spout nonesense OR give a frail explanation that rouses an outstanding degree of question marks. I am no expert when it comes to this, In any case I'm twice as baffled as you are, I too flounder when it comes to this. Many a times I have sat and cracked my brain over this issue in an attempt to consolidate OR rather put two and two together to come up with something logical that partially satisfies my quest for knowledge.

Without further ado, Let me throw in my mere insignificant cents and bail out. To me, I'm of the thinking that there is a supernatural being....I dont know if it's God OR..But definitely there's a great being somewhere. The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate designer who not only created our universe BUT also sustains it today. How else could the planet be so perfect ranging from location to the contents. Mere chance is not an adequate explanation. Chance can not make everything fit right like a jig saw puzzle, All the pieces fell into place because of an architect and the architect in question has to OR had to have had immense powers And is definitely not human because humans are often accompanied by 89% accuracy at most, In most cases that is. The earth's location - It's just at the right place. Move it any closer to the sun and we will roast........Everything is just perfect. I wouldnt attempt to give examples of what is perfect because everything is and that backs the notion that there is a supernatural being.

Thanks Philosopher. Lets assume there's this great architect who made the heavens and the earth. And the reasoning here is that such a perfect and complex universe could not have just been an accident and must therefore have been created by someone.

I think that such an architect with such skills and power cannot just have been an accident. So I wonder was the architect created by some other architect or exactly where did he/she originate from?

Now...this one always brings some contention and in my view, makes people think differently as they grow up (or for some people, just growing old).

Anyway, based on what we are taught through school and at Sunday School or whatever...God is somebody somewhere up there who requires that once a week we meet to fellowship, give the church a few bob in offering to help with its upkeep, sing and rejoice and share the word from the Bible.

Now my first reality check that this wasn't really the deal is when I begun to notice that this whole thing of going to church for most people was pure showbiz...Those who would roll in with huge Mercs, Pajeros, and Beamers made it a point that everyone saw them come and leave...Those who dressed like they were auditioning for Vogue magazine could be spotted up and down the church...Now guys you've gotta admit, this makes you wonder what's cutting here...I would have concluded that maybe this was all in my head, but it don't happen in only one church...Furthermore, it becomes more interesting when a lot of the folk your age barely trying to smile at you are in a contstant battle to try stay awake...All the while, a feeling of dejavu clouds your mind when you suddenly realise...I know where I saw that girl...she was sitting by the dancefloor at Carni last night...and that's not what she was wearing!

Now my analysis was that this wasn't a viable place to understand this God thing co'z the participants themselves had issues.

Lets fast forward as life goes on and things happen...We are told that God is almighty and watches over us but the question begs that if he is seriously around as people say..."Why do so many bad things happen in the world today..." Why doesn't he stop them...does he choose to stop them? A lot of people trying to provide an answer to this claim that these things happen coz' its God's will and we should seek salvation...I'm still trying to figure out how (as some of you have suggested in this thread), we should seek God and believe with all our heart...If he is there, why does he make us seek him? Why doesn't he stand out and people will see him?? If its his will, and he is as good and kind and merciful as all say...why does he allow so many bad things to happen?

Well...I can tell you there were times in my life when I was content with seeking an audience with him to table a few serious questions that I need answers to. I'm sure there's enough people out there who also want to ask him some serious questions....

This far in life, I've concentrated on getting on with life and the one thing I search for that is divine to me is peace of mind and all around me...I acknowledge the presence of a God figure but in the same way that we are asked to believe and have faith, I also believe and have faith that the things that have been happening around me should not be happening if there was a God who was watching over us...

I'd like to hear your views on all this, and very willing to clarify my points above.

Nice to have you back Ms. Diva...thought you'd given up on Mashada.

Anyway,...you seem to have forgotten the basics of life during your brief abscence....Assumption is the mother of all ****kups and you my dear, just seem to be embroiled in the foliage of your own creation each time you try and reason. Case in point...you not even being capable of understanding that my issues to do with God's existence has nothing to do with money...I won't even try to reason wit you on this one coz' you wouldn't understand why I wrote the comments I did...Unfortunately for us, you seem to remind us time and time again that common sense is not so common afttter all...Take heart my sister..there is hope out there...

...Back to the crux of this response...you need to take a chill pill before hating on jamaas who you assume are broke all the time...I'm sorry to disappoint you but you'll be surprised what income I can generate legally...and the beauty about it is that I know how to enjoy it...Life's a bytch...and then there's you.

Remember, don't think too hard, lest you damage the little that's there.

I humbly await any reasonable response you can come up with but I do realise this could be a tall order...take care Ms. Diva.

People, do you now realise why I ask is there a God?

Default IS GOD SHY, OR JUST A SNOB? - 10-13-2001, 09:08 PM

Isso you have raised some very good questions. I have been wondering whether God is shy, a snob, or just refuses to get involved. Or is He too busy with more pressing issues to address mere mortal earthlings?

Some have suggested that we just believe and trust that He's there, worship and praise Him, and even jump through hoops and adjust our whole lives around Him. All this without a single shred of evidence of His existence. They have also promised dire consequeces for any who refuse to believe in Him and abide by His rules.

I always wonder why God does not show up in a big stadium, or on T.V., and make a world tour while doing press conferences and answer a few questions I'm sure people have for him. If He's such a mighty, powerful, great, and jealous God why does he not show up and tell us exactly what he wants of us. Why do we have to rely on hearsay, dated circumstancial evidence, and flaky bits and pieces of hard-to-believe and often conflicting tales.

I've heard that God loves it when we praise and worship Him and put Him above all else. I've also gathered that He's very upset when people tend to worship other Gods besides Him. Now that to me sounds like He has some serious ego, or insecurity issues. That He's been absent from us earthlings for the longest seems to be inconsistent with the above character traits.

Another fishy issue is the way the clergy instilled the fear of the Devil in anyone who tried to question the existence of God. They were and are always quick to refer to such persons as blasphemous. They always revert to condemning the person all while getting angry and hot under the collar. In any case they always evade the issue. Some in this forum have taken that position on this very issue.

My concern is that if we just go ahead and believe in beings or things without any proof whatsoever, then we are likely to believe anything. We are openning the door for any and every con artist to take us up for all we are worth.
