Default Man vs God; who wins?    Show Printable Version  Print   Email this Page  Email

Only for those religious Shadites who like reading and a good theological debate, Man vs. God - WSJ.com, who wins, Man or God? According to this piece on WSJ, Evolution takes the price, " Religion is not an exact science but a kind of art form that, like music or painting, introduces us to a mode of knowledge that is different from the purely rational and which cannot easily be put into words. At its best, it holds us in an attitude of wonder...." "Evolution is God's redundancy notice, his pink slip...."

Whether anyone believes in evolution or creation or does not believe anything. whether one believes the earth is round, flat or oval, whether one belongs to a religion or is religionless. We all have this one thing in common. We will all stand before the judgment throne of God and give account of our lives. If anyone's name is not written in the Lamb's book of life. IF anyone did not accept Jesus, they will be cast into the lake of fire which burns with sulfur. evolution will not help them out at that time.

Revelation 20.15
"If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

Mtumishis, you miss the point, what if "the book" does not exists? There is a very big possibility it does not. What makes you think Revelations supersedes the Koran or all the other religions?

What about this statement; "Religion was not supposed to provide explanations that lay within the competence of reason but to help us live creatively with realities for which there are no easy solutions and find an interior haven of peace; today, however, many have opted for unsustainable certainty instead." I think it carries some truth.

Let's go by your presupposition, what do you lose by believing that it does exist when in actual sense it doesn't?

If for instance believing in the existence of that book makes you a better person who lives a virtuous loving life and conscious of caring for the environment than the rest - if believing in its existence gives you much joy and strength in times of distress, to what loss do you credit the belief in that book?

Jerry D, first, I agree with you, if what you believe in "makes you a better person who lives a virtuous loving life.... then there is nothing wrong with that absolutely, and my intention was not to dispute that at all.
What I wanted was a discussion on if God does exists and was asking Mtumishi the possibility that the "book" does not exist.
So the title, "Man vs God; who wins?"

Good point.

The truth of the matter...the existence of God cannot and will never be proved empirically...NEVER.

Debates concerning his existence cannot and shall never be concluded....

So we can for ages waste time in philosophical retorts but if God doesn't end it by showing up, then we will never have the concluding words on who is the winner.

If we are still having this debate it is because our people are yet to garner the courage to come to terms with the fact that

MAN CREATED GOD in his own IMAGE and for HIS own benefit. As simple as that!

A fact is an empirical evidence and since you cannot prove your retort above beyond reasonable doubt, dubbing it simple doesn't make it simple neither does it simplify it.

To begin with, the title of this thread is quite at odds with reality and fact.

Man does not win/loose over words he HIMSELF has created. Man created these words and so it’s quite erroneous to say that one would win or loose against his/her ‘subject’.Who wins a battle against his/her shadow?

However, since most men/women have become all but sheep/subject to WORDS (as opposed to reason) aspiring leaders have quickly learned that if they aren’t naturally skilled in the use of words they must take a course in RHETORIC (the art of telling half-truths and claiming applause!) if they want to make it.

In fact people weighting authority over these words very easily manipulate their hearers/readers emotions as they see fit, reason why a full grown man with wife and kids at home will stand up in church/mosque/synagogue/shrine etc and begin shedding tears!

Our people should be reminded that GOD is a word no more no less, an ENGLISH WORD at that!

The very fact that people are ready to go any length to defend these created words only goes to provide evidence of what we generally know about religion and belief systems: ‘the business of getting the masses EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED to illusions’ such as the subconscious image of a giant old white man suspended in the skies fed to our children’s tender minds, or such as the sublime image of blue eyed blond hair white Jesus whom our women hold so dear!

Religious people are not trained to think but regurgitate and defend.

Asking for empirical evidence where you know such a request is self contradictory is called WORD PLAY.
