The way to know is by seeing how ready they are to help you when in need or how they react when youre together and some situation hits the both of you. It all depends on how they react when faced with an unexpeced situation. People are at their most honest when they havent been rehearsing their reactions. The only time that happens is when something unexpected happens and their resources are suddenly needed. If they do not hesitate to give then they are well meaning if they do even for a moment, then you got your answer.
