Interesting one this.

Heard an interview on the BBC the other day where a lady was asked the exact same question and she replied:

"Post-election violence? Definitely if Mugabe wins. The only difference with Kenya is that rather than inter-party violence, Zimbabwe will be everyone versus the police"

It's sad to think that Uncle Bob rather than choosing to make a graceful exit, has been bamboozled by his cronies into believing he should hold on to the reins. The people have been abnormally calm, firmly confident in the change that has been sometime in the brewing...

Now with all the delays with the Presidential results the cracks are beginning to show. I'd hate to think it has all just been the calm before the storm.

Zimbabweans deserve better than to descend into chaos, they've been living in purgatory for the last ten years.

Quite interesting statement. BUt Zims have been intimidated by the police and if they get an opportunity to release, the police will be on the receiving end. Bob has been raising police and military salaries time and again at the expense of other civil servants and other citizens. And the hefty salaries, police would want to help Mugabe to continue being in power at whatever cost.

They say Zim is now the 'Country of rumours'.

It's been twelve days since the vote and the electoral commission remains mum with it's lawyer making vague comments about it being 'potentially dangerous' to release the result.

Now the MDC suggest that Mugabe is holding the results hoping that the people will lose their cool and revolt. This is where he rolls out his state machinery and declares a state of emergency, thus remaining at the helm. If he can maintain this for twelve months he can then rule almost indefinitely by decree.

Sounds like just the brouhaha his cronies would spiel him but he'd do well to remember what happened to Ceauşescu, who had similar delusions of grandeur.
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Here's hoping that the emergency SADC summit (which both sides are expected to attend) averts another African crisis.
