Default can somebody tell me the correct pronunciation of this name ?? - 08-18-2008, 12:22 AM

It is a Yoruba name.
The name is Akinyemi

Is it pronounced
"ah-keen-yeh-meh"
or
"ah-keen-yeh-mee"
or
"ah-keen-yeh-mye" ?

I have been looking everywhere trying to confirm the pronunciation but have had no luck.

Just want to make sure.

thanx

ah-kee-nyeh-mee and Ah-ken-ye-me sound a little different from each other. The syllables , "Ah-kee-nyeh" and "Ah-Ken-ye" are slightly different .. wonder which one is correct?

I understand why you cannot say it.My name has an n in the beginning and this makes many americans say the "n" is silent.I'm like no its not.

But anyway its ah-kee-nyeh- mee. Think of it like the "nya" part of the country Kenya but this time its an "e" not "a" at the end. Also note the stress of the name ends at the "nyeh" part.

Oh I didnt even see Wantai's web reference. Seems like a West African name so I guess they don't pronounce it like we do in East Africa....Neat.
