Default DV2009 Winner-Advice - 06-13-2008, 06:25 PM

I receiced a notification that I won U.S. green card visa lottery. I am seeking advice on how to go about this issue. I am currently on an F1 visa and I dont want to use consular processing at all. The only thing holding me back is I don't know how reliable the adjustment of status method is. As a student, I had EAD for economic hardship for 1 year. Later, I also had one year of OPT. However, I have heard that you could be at risk even if OPT is not exactly in you degree field. I know people who have gone through the process will say there is nothing to worry about, but I also don't want to be greedy and rush to destroy my life. I have heard of people being denied but I don't know the specifics of their cases. So, have you ever been through this process? What do you know about the adjustment of status processes? What do you know about employment issues?
Thanks for your contribution.

we are in the same shoes and from what I've gathered doing AOS is tricky especially if your case # is high. what is your case #?

I don't have it here but I believe it is about 20,000 or so. What about you?
I have done a lot of research lately and I like the immigration portal forums website. I think the collective advice from the post is enough to understand this green card lottery process. Good Luck!

Do guys still apply for the green card? I come to states whenever I like - kindalike an open door policy for me. My principle has always been to earn RESPECT, not beg for it.

All the same, go for it and good luck!

A lot of people assume we all come from the same backgrounds but that is not true of course. You may have the ability to travel back and forth but some of us may not. Of course some Kenyans are better off without green cards, but most of us Kenyans would benefit from it without a doubt. WamaX, I think it is a blessing that you can be able to go back and forth but if you can promise to feed me and my family, I am willing to halt this process.
Another thing that people don't understand is that green card is not citizenship. Just because you have a green card doesn't mean you are obliged to become a citizen. You can be denied citizenship or you can choose not to go for it.

Kifaru2 once again please check your inbox. I think your case # is good enough to give AOS a trial. Your # is likely to be current btn march and april '09. mine will be most likely during the last two months, still trying to figure out the way to go.
U going to do AOS or CP?
May Good luck be yours always.
