it's not that bad. Maybe we just happen to be picking on the negatives in this thread. I'm really curious to see addis one day, and then travel to the highlands and see the ancients churches cut out of rock. As i said, wealthier ethiopians do not have many hang-ups and issues... This thread is like, kenyan hawkers descend on addis big-time and ethiopians start discussing kenyans based on experiences with hawkers, ati a forum thread 'most kenyan men have teeth that do not touch each other'.

Another thing is Ethiopians are rather narrow minded and think tha only good life is in Europe or America.
My company regularly sends us for trainings and business trips to Europe. However, they Ethiopian office dare not send anyone for Training to Europe. lastime they did that, two Ethiopian girls just disappeared from their hotels to be illegal immigrants in Europe.

Now how do you explain someone with a University degree with a well paying job in one of the biggest multinational companies in the world, giving all that up to go and be a fugitive in Europe. just crazy.

Type R, my experience with South Africans is the same, they are equally ignorant and narrow minded. at it's not just the blacks, even the whites and the coloureds suffer the same problem. the guys I disapproved the most though were the coloureds even though I went to a coloured Church all the time I was there. the coloureds have a lot in common with the ethiopians. i.e they are black when it suits them and non-black when it is unsuitable to be black.

Actually Ethiopia is a very beautiful country. and the people are very polite.
Addis is a wonderful city and better planned than Nairobi. i.e nobody grabbed all the road reserves there. also the country is developing very fast and things are changing rapidly.

There is nothing like the churches in Ethiopia. people actually stop by the church gates and kiss them every time they pass them. pure romance especially when they tell you the stories of the old emperors running from Solomon and even before. and the Orthodox priests are very dignified and stately.

moral of my story: Ethiopia is a wonderful country with a proud history. but there are also lots of misguided people there who really let down their country. problem is that they are so many.

It might make more sense if we understood that Ethiopia like Britain and France in the 1300s was for a long time a feudal empire. the nobility owned most of the land while the peasants remained poor for centuries. things haven't changed much for the peasants even to this day.

I find them very courteous and respectful. I've attended their private parties and enjoy their company. It's only that "African" thing that hangs on the back of my mind...

Ethiopia
If i was to talk about it it would take me ages.

Fact is Ethiopia is more endowed with natural resources than any country in Africa the Irony is that the citizens are in Abject poverty.

Ethiopia is the only country in the region with the most impoverishing taxation system.

You simply will be tax from merely buying clothes from one city to another.

What happens in Ethiopia Stays in Ethiopia example..
Actually Daafur, Zimbabwe or any crisis in the world will be dwarfed by the attrocities that happen in Ethiopia.

As for development thats a mirage, Ethiopia heavily relies on Financial aid and its funny at how they have no strings attached to the use of the aids package as mostly invested in the Military.


Ethiopias military is close to 200,000. This number is not due to its regional foes but its used to force to ensure that it does not disintegrate.
Disintegration is the fear that the Addis Regime experiences.
Also the most steady salary in Ethiopia is the military hence since people are in abject povery the only option is the military.


This is just the tip of the ice berg.

I have no problem being considered black, but if i am in any kind of conversation back home involving race and i just attemp to present myself as being black, everybody and their mother has a negative opinion about that...so dont generalize please......
