my son studied under the 8-4-4 system till std 2 then transfered to the US. trust me the 8-4-4 is more thorough despite some of its faults. the kids can read and are able to subtract by the end of std1 by std 2 most kids are able to work simple questions like 345-299(which a lot of american kids dont get to do till the end of their second grade year)

After his summer breaks, it is so hard to accustom him to school schedule, so i have him doing alot of stuff during summer, i let him visit his cousins in other states, have him go to summer camps and i have a stack of childrens books that i have him reading before he goes to bed.The reason why i do this is because of the time that he has in his hands. he can quite easily get addicted to his games or cartoon network which i have to limit

Back home , break was at most three weeks .i liked it then

How would you like to be locked up in some of those infamous Kenyan boarding schools for 9 months?

The year around system can not work in Kenya. In the current Kenyan system, most of the students are so tired of school that the only way to release their steam is to go on strike:)
