I got this job offer but we are in the Salary negotiation process - Salary offered is $2000 less of the salary range that I'm seeking. The company seems to have a good working environment and opportunity for growth, however I'm not comfortable less than what I asked. So I told them I'll give it a thought, then get back to them. In the past what I dealt with one company was to tell them that another employer had given be a better offer - they asked me how much and I told them, so they agreed to give me what I had asked for. I haven't used the same strategy on this new job offer though.

How should I express my interest work for them while negotiating for the right pay?

Ask for the figure you have in mind. If it works, good for you. If not, decide whether the extra couple of grand will make that much of a difference in your finances, especially if you have a good feeling for the position and work environment. You can always negotiate a higher raise during your review when you've shown your value to your employer. Do not use phantom competition.
