Now that Raila has formally joined the race for president, it is a foregone conclusion who is the next president.Kenyans always wanted Raila to be the PM hence his poor showing in the opinion polls. Now that he is throwing his hat into the ring, Kalonzo will not find it easy. Kalonzo had started shining due to the screen behind him-Raila. Now that the mirror is also joining the war, let us sit back and see how things take shape.

I have a better chance of becoming president than this fellow.
That is however not the funny thing. The funny bit is that I am not even running and have no intentions whatsover of doing so. Do you get my drift? |

When Mr Raila becomes President, Kenya will enter another era, democracy, freedom, fairness, end to poverty. To those I am certain of, if you look at history, before any country made that transition, it only took one visionary, powerful, righteous, God fearing leader to make it happen. Regardless of tribe, religion, race, SES, I continue praying that all Kenyans will see him for that potentially extraordinary leader.

The problem with Railas detractors is that they are against him yet they do not offer any alternatives. We also need to stop fantasizing that somebody will just appear and make a good leader. Anyone aspiring for leadership has to cut their teeth somewhere. Maybe start from leading two people and working their way up. We therefore need to confine our argument to already existing leaders, leaders who have been in the game. We may even go further and compare the aspiring candidates with the present and former leaders. I know Railaphobs will start moaning that Raila has laid with Moi and KANU blah blah but that is beside the point, it is a smoke screen to distract as from the real issue. Just look at Kibakis administration and youll realize that KANU elements are all over the map. So that argument is redundant. We all agree that Kibaki is not the man to lead us into the future. So he can be immediately be dismissed from the 2007 line-up. Kalonzo and UK have young looks but have never taken any bold stands. They have never convinced peers to do anything; they have instead been evasive on issues that lack definite form. They would rather jump into support of an issue once the public wave has taken a particular direction. If Kenyans just want a compromise leader just to be president since the sit requires an occupant then Kalonzo or UK are your men. Nevertheless, if you want a trail blazer, one who can lead our country boldly and take in new ideas without fear Raila is your man. Raila has proven that he can negotiate his way out of crises and also convince peers to follow suit. Raila is the leader who can deal with executives in the boardrooms but still relate to the mwananchi in kithothoroni. He is the only candidate, since he has declared interest, who will lead Kenya through this transition that it seem stuck on. |

Beenie that's very perceptive. This announcement has a sardonic ODM ploy
written all over it. Spare a thought for savvy-challenged DP strategists bracing themselves for yet another round of 'catch-up' :D. |
