DOES RAP DEGRADE? -

Last night heard a hot discussion about each music generation having its ups and downs, its era of failure and success and how it played a role on then and todays society.
Shortly put - Back in the 50ties Elvis and his Rockers were claimed to be degrading to the youth.
Then the 70ties with all the demo and flower power artists was ruining the society and culture, then came Punks, Mods, (not POV Mods), Acid blamed for the increase of drug abuse and even the Glam Rockers a reason why the gays took hold on our society.
Now it is the Rap, Hip Hop etc.
But the main heated discussion (between white and black people in the discussion) was; do the images of black women in todays videos express the general climate of our society? Do they reflect prevailing values? Do the male Rapper stars project the Black Women as "being bought and sold in a different arena?"
Many whites agreed that this Rap culture served to express (the black community's) alienation from the system?
But many Black Males agreed that the Black rappers degrade Black women in many rap songs. These so-called male hip-hop artists disrespect women in the first place, and that many of the female rappers are controlled by male managers and can only make a success when they degrade themselves in such a manner.
My opinion is that it promotes a bad image for Black Women. What is yours?
