Default What's so disappointing in r&b - 05-29-2005, 04:18 PM

Is when you have songs like R-Kelly's in the closet labeled and listed as soul and real r&b. There is nothing loving in that song or even sexy. The message, yes we get the message and it revolves around morality and today's DL Brother. Yet, real r&b is classic and loving and also true like Al Green, Patti La Belle, Angie Stone, Leela James who deservingly so needs more play on mainstream radio. Time will tell where r&b goes but the month of June is going to be hot with some true r&b albums droppin' check Leela James.

I agree that's why the preseveration of our culture and good music like it is so important. That's why the Leela James has got to become our new source of soul because artists like her and Musiq Soul Child and Angie Stone and Alicia Keys keep things real and clean and true to the origin of soul and ol'skool r&b.

Raheem Devaughn is the truth, saw him perform in Chicago the other day, together with Bobby Valentino. If you into such like acts please don't sleep on the line of

1. Jaguar Wright
2. Kem
3. Rashan Patterson.... dudes got an amazing album but you can't find it here in the states, i got mine from London

Also Raphael Saadiq's album is really dope but stupid label politics will not give it the run it deserves.

Now, Raheem Devaughn is on point as is Kem, Rashawn Patterson, but Jaguar Wright is just aight. I need to hear more of her but musically she is very soulful as all of them are. Leela like all of these artists mentioned have that new feel of R&B Neo-Soul that we've been missing for so long and no it never was in the form of R-Kelly.

So true in that joint it does like R-Kelly stole the concept from Biggie's "I got a story to tell". Yet this is why r&B is suffering to a large degree. This is why we must support the Raheem Devaughn's, and Kem's, and Leela James' of the neo-soul r&b world. Trust me, if y'all feel Raheem's album u will definitely feel Leela's album because she sings from the heart and soul and there is a deep message in her music, especially her song "Mistreatin' Me". That is my favorite cut of hers so far.
