Default Mariah Graces the cover of Essence - 03-26-2005, 02:27 PM

or is it the other way around did Essence do her the favor? Mariah needs some exposure and needs that name to blow even more especially since her album is due to be released next month. I feel Mariah and all that ol' girl has gone thru but to a degree it seems like she is a bit played. I just hope the sister gets over messin' with execs. that don't really care bout her except for her looks and she focuses on some good soulful ballads like she had in the past. Now, that would be what's up!! Her album will let us know whether she's back or not.

One.

Essence yes and coming to terms with her identity yes but still concerned about others who question her ethnicity. Still inspite of her attractive nature she is yet insecure but a darn good performer. I guess we can't have it all. I Know on April 12th with Good Morning America Mariah will do a free promotional concert on 44th St in Manhattan and her album drops the same day. Can we say great advertising.

Oh most definitely you can say great advertising and can you blame her or the label for wanting her to have the best start out of the gate. Look, ol' girl needs sales and if this live performance will inspire people to go and cop her album then the more the label will do to give her a push. Damn, too bad labels don't work that hard for every artist.

And for the record, no matter what she accepts as her race she is still a nice talent.

Peace.

aaahh...Mariah...Mariah..what shall i do with you...
I used to have a monster crush on Mariah Carey when i was a teenager coz she's just so hot man..boobs..ass and everything...just too hot...the amazing voice was an added bonus....but these days i don't know. i kind of miss the vision of love mariah..you know..big voice power ballad kind of thing...that chick can seriously sing. Now she just sounds like she has homa or she's just tired or something.. i don't know. Her last good album to me was the one with 'always be my baby'..i can't recall the name...after that everything went down hill. i know she's 'exploring other avenues vocally' but now only die hard fans buy her cd...for a so so fan like me i am largely unimpressed by what she puts out these days...every song sounds the same.

But i'm glad that she's going different directions coz people, ok me, can only stand so many power ballads..it get's tired after a while. It's kind of vulgar...this addiction to high notes that we seem to have..me included...if she doesn't wail and scream then we don't get goosebumps and all emotional and nostalgic ....just look at American Idol...every performance has the same basic frame work.. start slowly and build up to the emotional climax of the song which often means screaming your lungs out...Carrie Underwood irritates me when she does that...it's like a sugar rush...just sing pole pole in the begining and explode at the end to make these people happy. .i'm kind of cynical about 'big voices' these days...i don't know i'm growing old i guess... It's just that it's not about feeling the song anymore...just showing what great range you have. And that's sad coz that's why people like Mariah and whitney were great...coz the emotion behind 'one sweet day' and 'Hero' was real. Now she's just on Auto pilot...just singing loudly to please the die hards. Anyway the only song i probably like is that duet with Nelly.Very funky beat.
