Default What is the name of Kenya/E.A. Music??? - 11-18-2001, 12:17 PM

It is easy for one to identify lingala from west and central Africa. By only listening to the beats, one can tell the music is from S. Africa.

What is the name for music from Kenya? Do we have a specific style that is easily identifiable, or we just ape music from other countries/regions?

Let me know the style of Kenya music.

African music styles like lingala are created when artistes mimic the sounds of traditional instruments with mordern equipment. Kenya's most popular/successful style is benga, a style of music that mimics the traditional instruments of the Luo. Even the music of the Kikuyu (eg Kamaru) is influenced by the benga sound.
