Default Nollywood is Dead! - 12-09-2007, 02:14 PM

Hey guys,

Normally, i don't post i just read but on this topic I felt I had to give my 2cents

i was watching a Nigerian movie (the name escapes me) with my girlfriend and I couldn't believe what i was watching it wasn't your typical movie, the subject matter was relevant and focused, the camera angles were good and the audio was good!! They even had a hip original soundtrack.

I'm not a big fan of Nollywood i personally think its boring and predictable but this movie was fresh and took things in a whole other direction.
fyi it was about a nigerian/african that comes to america in search of the land of milk and honey but instead falls into a world of deceit etc. i like it because its relevant.

I'm wondering is Nollywood Dead with movies like this coming out and pushing the boundaries where does that leave the Nollywood formula?

In my opinion Nollywood is dead and a much-welcomed new breed of Nigerian film has arrived. what do you think?

I'm going to call my girlfriend to get the name…I’ll post later

Default Nollywood is evolving - 12-18-2007, 10:40 AM

They have done some phenomenal things and their audience is growing. was at an Award show for African movies this weekend in New York, and the Haitian crowd cheered (and bumrushed) the African actors a lot more than they did the Haitians (see Jamati Online | Nollywood’s Cross Over Appeal. I enjoy the Nollywood movies. I see more collaboration with the Ghanians (the big name from Ghana is Van Vicker []Jamati Online | Van Vicker - Ghana’s Sexy Leading Man who was at the awards and Nadia Bukari) so I think it isn't dead, just changing. The budget is not quite the $20,000 that it used to be (Jamati Online | This is Nollywood.

It will be good to see how the Kenyan industry takes off. We are near Zanzibar that does the ZIFF awards.
