Default Summer Returns - 06-22-2006, 07:43 PM

Summer Returns?

All movie nuts raise your hand up! Ok... that’s a decent number of you. Now, all those with their hands up who were really excited about this summer seasons movies make a fist with that upraised hand. Good. Now all those who think so far it has sucked extend your middle finger on the same hand. Good. Take THAT Hollywood!

Seriously though, I am always excited about summer blockbusters every year, and this year more so with a few superhero movies lined up. (X-men last stand, superman returns, my super-ex girlfriend HA!). So far though it has been a major disappointment shelling out that $5.50 for a student ticket which could go to better use… McDonalds anyone? Like Metropolis, on June 28th, Superman Returning might be the savior of this summer blockbuster season. Can’t see why idiot? Let’s see what we know so far.

Casting: With Spacey as a bad guy, the criminal element of this movie is pretty much locked down. He usually can do no wrong, but keep in mind there is a first for everything. Brandon who plays the man of steel is unknown, but from what we have seen of him in the trailers and interviews, he pulls of superman nicely. Now all we need to see is how he portrays Clark Kent and we have our complete cast. Lois is good looking as expected… we can’t have superman with a fugly girl can we?
Quote: Lois Lane: But Millions of people will die!
Lex Luthor: No. Billions!

Special Effects: The plane falling out the sky scene? Looks awesome! Superman getting shot in the eye and the bullet bouncing off in slow-mo? SuperAwesome! Spacey blowing up metropolis? GigaAwesome!

Super-Director Bryan Singer: with movies like The Usual Suspects, X2 and TV shows like House M.D. this man can do no wrong.

The Other Crappy Movies: the other movies expected to do well turned out like Tara Reid's Boob job. Looked Promising, but upon closer inspection made u either want to slap her surgeon or punch her. Or maybe both.
X men: The Last Stand disappointed its true base fans, the comic book reader such as me, by taking extreme liberties with the storyline. While the special effects were awesome, the plot and continuity sucked… like how can the phoenix be killed by wolverine? And was Scott even paid for being in this movie for those 3 seconds? Aaargh!
I have already forgotten what MI3 was about… something about a rabbit he was chasing through Oprah’s studio and into Asia or something? The Sentinel was expected to follow in 24’s footsteps but no such luck. Who takes one of the hottest women in the world (Eva Longoria) and put her in a suit the whole movie? Do you think Desperate Housewives would be that popular without those raunchy sex scenes with her? NO!
Un-Original movies I don’t even waste my time with them, like the Omen and Da Vinci Code. The original is always better, the book is always better. And the next time someone takes advantage of a date to release a movie so cliché, he might, just might get shot. Ok ok, maybe hear me booing from my little house in Florida.

So with Pirates of the Caribbean, Miami Vice and a few more movies coming up that still offer us hope, lets pray that Superman Returns to save blockbuster season. Lois what you wrote is not true. The World does need a savior, and that savior is Superman.
P.S. I was cautious about Over the Hedge, but that movie is hilarious. If you overlook the obvious…ahem…liberties they take, it’s a pretty funny movie.

Man, you sound like you have a good life, watching movies all the time.
Unfortunately for me my fav season is in the fall, when everything gets all gloomy and the oscar wind breezes in from the west like the harmattan. Never been a huge blockbuster dude but i was kinda looking forward to Mi3 coz i absolutely LOVED the original MI so i thought this one would be cool....but after hearing you and many other people i've decided it sounds too ADD for me. Same for X3 which i SWORE i would watch after watching it's awesome trailer last fall. But Brett Ratner? again ADD.

So that leaves me with Superman returns. I am a huge Batman fan coz it's darker, i'm more Gotham city than Metropolis with it's sunny superhero. I like my strung out on vodka bat hero better. Brando Routh looks SO put together and perfect. That guy must shave at least twice a day bana. It's all a little too Ken doll for me. It's getting good reviews so that's encouraging but i don't know....i think i'll just go for the spectacle of it. Besides i used to absolutely love Lois and Clark on when it used to come on KTN so maybe it'll be a nice re-union. Plus come on Kevin Spacey.....some good chops will be on display there...now i have syke. Super x girlfriend seems so absurd to me...in a good way. I'm not a big Uma fan but we'll see.

I hated the first Pirates so could care less about this one. Jonhny D got an oscar nod for that? yeah didn't get that one really. The whole time i just kept thinking about how bad his accent was.

This year i really don't have anything to look forward to really and that's kinda disappointing.

Oh well.

Can't wait to see Sean Penn and Kate Winslet in the All The Presidents Men remake though. That is the movie i anticipate the most. I had been looking forward to Science of Sleep coz i love Michel Gondry and Gael Garcia Bernal is such a fantastic actor but i saw the trailer the other day and it looks too bizarre for me. I'll still watch it though.

Anyway, enough of this movie blather.

Superman returns was nice. Lex is now wearing a toupee?(sp) lol.

X-Men was aait. I've seen better..

Pirates of the Carribean(Dead mans chest)- The first one was waaay better. I don't think it deserved an emmy. Whats with Depp and the gay act tho'?

MI-3 was the sh!t. The Humpty dumpty sat on a wall part was funny.

The Sentinel- I missed this one. Coming out on dvd in August...I wonder when it will be showing on ppv. I cant wait!

wh@ the f*cks up with hollywood? everything th@'s been coming out for the last couple of years has only been fit for a toilet bowl.

x-men 3- *yawn* i used to be a big fan of the comic back in the day but the movies have ruined it for me. i hope they dont have plans for a sequel

MI:3 - never been a fan of the TV series or movies but MI:2 really impressed me coz of john woo's directing skills. this 3rd one's a waste of 2 hrs. they shuld have just re-released a directors cut of MI:2 for theaters.

superman returns?? Superman's the worst comic character ever created. he's a self-righteous goody 2 shoes with an ugly costume and sh*tty villians to match. he shuld have stayed dead. if u want a good superman flick, watch the first one (1970's) - better story!

Dead man's cheast - not bad. The only decent movie disney have released in years
