Summer Returns?
All movie nuts raise your hand up! Ok... thats a decent number of you. Now, all those with their hands up who were really excited about this summer seasons movies make a fist with that upraised hand. Good. Now all those who think so far it has sucked extend your middle finger on the same hand. Good. Take THAT Hollywood!
Seriously though, I am always excited about summer blockbusters every year, and this year more so with a few superhero movies lined up. (X-men last stand, superman returns, my super-ex girlfriend HA!). So far though it has been a major disappointment shelling out that $5.50 for a student ticket which could go to better use
McDonalds anyone? Like Metropolis, on June 28th, Superman Returning might be the savior of this summer blockbuster season. Cant see why idiot? Lets see what we know so far.
Casting: With Spacey as a bad guy, the criminal element of this movie is pretty much locked down. He usually can do no wrong, but keep in mind there is a first for everything. Brandon who plays the man of steel is unknown, but from what we have seen of him in the trailers and interviews, he pulls of superman nicely. Now all we need to see is how he portrays Clark Kent and we have our complete cast. Lois is good looking as expected
we cant have superman with a fugly girl can we?
Quote: Lois Lane: But Millions of people will die!
Lex Luthor: No. Billions!
Special Effects: The plane falling out the sky scene? Looks awesome! Superman getting shot in the eye and the bullet bouncing off in slow-mo? SuperAwesome! Spacey blowing up metropolis? GigaAwesome!
Super-Director Bryan Singer: with movies like The Usual Suspects, X2 and TV shows like House M.D. this man can do no wrong.
The Other Crappy Movies: the other movies expected to do well turned out like Tara Reid's Boob job. Looked Promising, but upon closer inspection made u either want to slap her surgeon or punch her. Or maybe both.
X men: The Last Stand disappointed its true base fans, the comic book reader such as me, by taking extreme liberties with the storyline. While the special effects were awesome, the plot and continuity sucked
like how can the phoenix be killed by wolverine? And was Scott even paid for being in this movie for those 3 seconds? Aaargh!
I have already forgotten what MI3 was about
something about a rabbit he was chasing through Oprahs studio and into Asia or something? The Sentinel was expected to follow in 24s footsteps but no such luck. Who takes one of the hottest women in the world (Eva Longoria) and put her in a suit the whole movie? Do you think Desperate Housewives would be that popular without those raunchy sex scenes with her? NO!
Un-Original movies I dont even waste my time with them, like the Omen and Da Vinci Code. The original is always better, the book is always better. And the next time someone takes advantage of a date to release a movie so cliché, he might, just might get shot. Ok ok, maybe hear me booing from my little house in Florida.
So with Pirates of the Caribbean, Miami Vice and a few more movies coming up that still offer us hope, lets pray that Superman Returns to save blockbuster season. Lois what you wrote is not true. The World does need a savior, and that savior is Superman.
P.S. I was cautious about Over the Hedge, but that movie is hilarious. If you overlook the obvious
ahem
liberties they take, its a pretty funny movie.
