Hi fellow Kenyans
Am an entreprenuer in Kenya running a content (TV, Movies, Music, Books ) distribution company. I have encountered a very grave problem with Kenyans in the US. PIRACY. Kenyans abroad seem to be at the forefront of buying and engaging in fully fledged business of pirating Kenyan content especially music. Kenyan artists are really struggling and my company is opening for them markets in other African countries and we are being received very well.
Selling original Kenyan content in America is impossible because...
One Kenyan comes home on holiday and goes back after buying personal copies of Kenyan music, Kenyan movies or comedy programs, which is good BUT in less that two months about 5000 copies have been made and sold. The poor artist from Calif records or River road will have lost about Kshs500 per copy = Kshs2.5million which is money that many Kenyan artists will never see!
Yes distribution in Kenya has been lacking but is that any excuse to steal from fellow Kenyans. Kenyans go to America to look for better education and living back home its a struggle which can be improved if Kenyans STOP PIRATING KENYAN ARTISTIC PROPERTY!
Am sure among you are lawyers, business people, artists, film makers, publishers who will understand what is happening and maybe we can work out a remedy to curtail this illegal trade. Am in the process of getting information on patents , IPRs ( intellectual property rights)and copyright law in America, with the aim of using the justice system to catch these thieves in America.
Honestly think back......how many times have you been approached to buy pirated Kenyan music, Movies?.....how many times have you bought the pirated content?.....How many Kenyans do you know who are part of this illegal trade?
Am looking for solutions to this problem because am sure we do have Kenyans who are also finding it hard to sell their music, films, documentaries in Kenya, we can work together to build this industry.
We are working in conjuction with the river road (riverwood) companies to sort out national distribution and the partnership is bearing fruit.
In Kenya there is a company called Continental Content Distribution which is working with various artists to market and distribute their albums, Films and TV programs.
We will be looking for authentic business people who want to be the registered licenced distributors and will be allocated different territories. If you want to purchase any Kenyan music, film(broadcast license and retail), Audio Books and pint books. please dont hestitate to write to me
