Default Oscar nominations announced; who deserves to win? - 03-06-2006, 09:42 AM

The Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild awards were just paving way for the biggest academy award show in movies, due to air on March 5th.

The nominees came as no surprise however there is much debate on who should take "the man" home.

Controversy stepped in especially when what is referred to as a "gay cowboy movie" picked up nominations in all major categories.

For a list of nominees and a chance to opine on your choice of candidate vs mine, visit http://www.mashada.com/blog/reggie and leave a comment.

Another disappointing night.
Crash? Best picture? These people have got to be kidding me.

Anyway Academy voters win for 'Most Self Congratulatory People' award. They can now all feel good about themselves for voting for a picture that 'dares to deal head on with race'. What a joke.
You can learn more about race from watching American idol.

I was kinda disappointed coz Brokeback didn't win.I guess all the Hype finally got to me. Gay people worldwide must be like.. et tu Brutus!!(Academy)...hollywood being gay dominated, one would assume that movie would have won...

They got it right on Tsotsi though. I can't tell you how proud i was seeing the joy and validation on Gavin Hoods face when he was on stage accepting..then for him to ask them point blank to focus the camera on the movies two Black stars was the hight point of the night. I clapped very very hard.

The Squid and the Whale was the best written movie last year and for Crash beat it for best script is just amazing to me.

Anyway did anyone watch 60 minutes yesterday? This show fascinates me to no end and yesterdays edition was especially infuriating. America is a truly screwed up country.

Thierry, you have always had strong views on the movie Crash since it came out. As much as I respect your opinion, I do believe the movie did deserve the best picture award. It did cause a major upset since everyone expected Brokeback Mountain to nab the top spot. Crash was a low budget movie that no distributor wanted to take on. I do feel they took a risk that worked. It is a fierce movie and the portrayal of the cultural/racial tension must have hit home with most people.

I feel that Jon Stewart did a good job hosting. I love him on the Daily Show and his quips are always on point. I felt that he was much better than Chris Rock year - that was a snooze fest for me!

I was very happy when Rachel Weisz got the supporting actress award -The Constant Gardener has been a sentimental favorite of mine.

I am yet to see Pride and Prejudice though I have heard nothing but rave reviews on it. Next on my list is Tsotsi directed by the same guy who did the movie Yesterday.

George Clooney's accepting speech had me laughing. This man oozes charisma!

Most unnexpected award - Best Original Score/Song to 36 Mafia for the song It's hard out of here for a pimp! Now I can't get that stupid song off my mind!

Will be back with more....

Hey Reggie...i'm expecting you to go Nye nye nye nye nye.....crash ilishinda...nye nye...etc

Believe it or not i had forgotten about the oscars till my friend called me and mentioned it...seriously i had....two or three years ago i would have planned MY WHOLE DAY around not missing it but i'm kinda over it now.
Yeah munich didn't win...i didn't expect it to but to me it was the best of the lot.

I wasn't really rooting for any in particular coz that whole academy is not to be taken seriously...i've been accused of being pretentious on this issue but i've always felt that oscar night is rarly about the movies but more about the machine...

like i said i only watched parts of it coz Jon Stewart was hosting..in fact i was gonna skip the whole thing before my friend reminded me that he was hosting....

so after 60 minutes kwishad i watched another sawa porn tape called...'suck deez nuts II'........it was either that or the famous 'barely 18 in Russia' but that seemed kinda creepy....i didn't even know they had porn in russia....i just wanted to jua what they say when they come....

Anyway back to movies...i can't wait to see Tsotsi....i don't think it's in wide release yet.

Nah, i'm not the kinda guy who likes to rub it in....actually i wasn't happy that best picture went to crash.

I'd rather it went to Brokeback instead--have you watched it?
I'm planning to buy the DVD--can't be seen at the movies watching that movie.

Russian porn huh?
Tsk tsk. I believe all countries have it. Personally, i stick to American porn--those DVDs that have like 4 hours of....stuff

gotta go to work, BRB...
