After watching hollywood for as long as i have, and being a strict fan of Science Fiction, musicals, epics and British comedies, i don't see how African movies can appeal to me.

After watching hollywood for as long as i have, and being a
>strict fan of Science Fiction, musicals, epics and British
>comedies, i don't see how African movies can appeal to me.

I have to admit that my knee-jerk reaction to that statement was ...god!..what a narrow and ugly point of view!.... However i am trying to get away from talking like that...and anyway people have different tastes so i can't begrudge you that. To all their due.

I watch movies coz i want a window into other peoples lives. I really really love that about movies...i love that they are a visual three dimensional picture of what other peoples lives are like...i really really pay attention to all detail in every scene coz i feel like that's my only chance to know these people being portrayed.....i know that sounds artsy fartsy and all but i had to watch a lot of movies to get to this point. I've come from far coz the first movie i ever really watched as in going to the theatres was Mission Impossible at 20th century and i remember coming out thinking THAT WAS THE MOST AWESOME MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN!!...of course now i hate action movies with a passion.

Not to give you unwarranted advice but maybe you should just try watching a movie without any agenda....especially movies that you wouldn't think would appeal to you....just watch and try to imagine what it's like being in that world....that's what i do and it's very rewarding. I'm the kind of person who lives in my head so movies are a good outlet.

Speaking of African movies i can't wait to see Tsotsi.

Some sound advice there, Thierry.
I'll take it to heart. However i feel i'm in too deep and wont be able to appreciate genres outside my box of fav movies.

Yeah, Tsotsi would be a good place to start for me now that it won an Oscar for best foreign language film.

You have no idea how happy I was when I saw African movies only for it to be full with Nigerian movies. First I can never understand a word they say Lords knows that I try secondly there is too much screaming. One day I invited some friends of mine to watch a Nigerian movies tell you it is not an experience that I want to go through again. Finally are they seriously telling me to give out my credit card details on a Nigerian based website no offence but that is pushing it to far
